Addressing last night, which I really was hesitant to do publically. First I was not physically attacked & want to be clear my equipment is the least of my concern. My phone survived the blow to pavement and spray paint on my camera came off with very little damage to screen 1/
The issue arose from a very public callout at the park about Nope retweeting someone's footage of Nazi Vinni getting walked out after threatening people and being arrested. Even I've been retweeted by Andy, that doesn't mean their media is problematic....2/
While this was being talked out (which could have been done 1 on 1) about 3 to 5 people decided to escalate and started yelling "break their cameras" and "beat their ass", really over a misunderstanding. I stayed out of it until about 4 or 5 surrounded person. It seemed like...3/
it was about to get physical, that's when I stepped in. That's when one of the folks escalating said "why the fuck do you have a camera" & aimed spray paint at me. I responded with some shit like "not for protesters" "are y'all new here" "if you don't know what I do, fuck off" 4/
3 femmes kept escalating, but dude with them was like show us the video to the person being confronted. I pulled out phone & showed him, that's when they grabbed my phone & slammed it on the pavement. I then somewhat flipped on them, would have got physical if they were dudes. 5/
I decided to walk away. At some point during argument someone either came behind me and spray painted my camera or chick did it when I turned around. The most hilarious thing about this, is that right behind person escalating was a right winger in bloc filming the whole thing 6/
Now the main concerns. First, I don't like getting more attention than needed in my efforts to provide needed info, but that I am getting. I shouldn't have to explain there are several big ongoing reasons why, and I won't. 7/
Second, theres a continuing pattern with ignorant and hot headed people on the ground that continually escalate in a way that puts people at risk. It's lead to our own being targets. It happened last week too. Feelings can be valid, but be disciplined, vigilant & intentional 8/
Third, the couple people that escalated were unopen 2 listen 2 those that are more informed & have yet to admit wrongdoing. Seems like they tried justifying to @DublinPDX via DM using distorted understanding of "cameras are cops". Also hearing it brushed off as "friendly fire" 9/
People don't get to do harm & then have actions justified as "friendly fire".If you fuck up, be accountable. If you are friends with those that fuck up, don't justify their shit and tell them to be accountable.Lastly I appreciate the support, but I also feel uncomfortable with 10/
the idea that because I'm well trusted that somehow I'm more deserving of support than others that have or might be harmed by others problematic behavior. I hope we support everyone else in the same way and really start addressing these issues. 11/
