Good afternoon #PrimeMinister,
Reading the @Telegraph article below has caused me significant angst. As a healthcare professional who has seen just what #COVID19 can do, I am struggling to understand the rationale behind this decision.
🧵
@BorisJohnson
telegraph.co.uk/politics/2021/…
Just as we are unlocking cautiously you want to risk the lives of more individuals by removing one of the few mitigations in secondary schools?
We know that #COVIDisAirborne & that we have several #VariantsOfConcern here already.
Have you seen this chart #PrimeMinister?
V few <40s will be vaccinated by May 17th & while their individual risk of serious disease or dying is low, their risk of #LongCovid is MODERATE!
Many parents & teaching staff are <40.
The numbers of #NHS & teaching staff w/ it already are horrendous. Why put more ppl at risk?
Look at this graph....

#COVID cases in children clearly rose between schools reopening on 8th March & closing for #Easter on 29th March.
Even @UsforThemUK, the @hartgroup_org & the #CRG would struggle to disagree with this ⬇️.
#SAGE have advised you to maintain #Masks for the summer term .
Why would you ignore their advice risking the wellbeing & lives of more innocent people?
theguardian.com/education/2021…
@IndependentSage agree completely that removing 😷s now is a mistake, going against both the evidence & the data.
With increasing numbers of the #B16172 #IndianVariant, allowing community transmission to ⬆️via schools is reckless & irresponsible @PHE_uk @educationgovuk.
Who will be responsible for the increase in cases that will inevitably occur if 😷s are completely removed from schools?
Everybody knows that pupils, staff & the families of both (plus their communities) have been put at extra risk by not making schools safe.
Many thousands of ppl have died & got long term debilitating illness unnecessarily!
Many families are grieving who didn’t need to.
It seems that those w/ power to make such decisions are listening to groups who’re scientifically illiterate whilst purporting to care about children.
Why listen to such unscientific nonsense rather than scientific & public health experts, drs & nurses who know #COVIDisAirborne.
This is what we could be aiming for @BorisJohnson ⬇️.
Wouldn’t you have liked a bit of this?!
There is still an option to change course.

Morning @GMB 👋🏼,

I bet your viewers aren’t aware that just a few weeks ago >7000 junior drs who wanted to train as GPs had their application to GPVTS REJECTED🚨?

Yes ~11,000 junior drs applied but only 4,029 places were given leaving the rest in limbo.

@RobbieRinder
#GPCrisis
Not bc these drs are not good enough to become GPs.

But purely because the govt have put a ludicrous cap on the number of GPs that can be trained, harming both patients & drs alike.

Ask @NavinaEvans & @NHSEnglandNMD - they know all about it!

@VictoriaAtkins @wesstreeting

@NavinaEvans @NHSEnglandNMD @VictoriaAtkins @wesstreeting It’s really important that the facts get into the public domain - we need your help @GMB 🙏🏼

The govt doesn’t want ordinary ppl to have access to a GP.

They’d like a new system where most #NHS GPs work in a supervisory capacity & patient care is by non-dr HCPs.

Hi @nandwics…

Your advert really concerns me.

As you know, there are multiple causes of abdominal pain, some of which are v serious & can even be fatal.

Appendicitis
UTIs & kidney infections
Kidney stones
Gallstones & Cholecystitis
Pancreatitis & pancreatic cancer…
1/6🧵
Ovarian cyst/torsion
Ectopic pregnancy
Peptic ulcers
Stomach & bowel cancer
Diverticular dis & diverticulitis
Coeliac disease
IBS & of course IBD
Abdominal aortic aneurysms
Hernias…

I could go on!
2/
To safely assess & diagnose what’s causing the pain, a HCP needs excellent history taking & examination skills plus the knowledge/wisdom to know when a patient needs further investigations or referral/admission to hospital.

These skills take years to develop & longer to hone.

Morning @NHSEngland👋🏼

Can I put in a polite request for some basic Infection Prevention & Control in hospitals?

Patient w/ cough, SOB & fever (& partner w/ ‘cold’ symptoms) sat in a heaving waiting room for 5 hours, coughing…& MASKLESS!

@AmandaPritchard @NHSEnglandNMD
1/8🧵
Despite being triaged on entry, the patient (who was quite unwell) was not asked to put on a mask or requested to do a #COVID test until being seen in our area by my NP colleague.

It took < 30secs seeing the patient to suspect they had #COVID19 …& guess what 🤔 …they did!
2/
Partner had ‘cold’ symptoms for 3-4 days before the patient developed SOB worsening over 24hrs.
Of concern, the fully vaccinated patient previously had severe #COVID, requiring ITU & months in 🏥. Unfortunately despite this past experience no #COVID tests had been done.

Please read this👇🏼 Prime Minister,

@MatthiasMuell15 summarises brilliantly exactly how so many of us feel & why it is vital that you allow #BaronessHallett access to ALL the WhatsApp messages she has requested 🙏🏼.

We will never forget the fear that caring for patients with #COVID in DIY PPE engendered & knowing that govt decisions over PPE contracts denied 1000s of us adequate protection is particularly disturbing.

Have you really forgotten the weekly claps of 2020?

#PPEScandal #NHS💔

Our friends/colleagues & loved ones died in their 1000s from COVID, because of COVID & as a result of a very poor UK government pandemic response & countless extremely bad decisions…

Hey @Guto_Harri

I’ve just listened to your interview w/ @TheNewsAgents & strongly reject your assertion that “some ppl are addicted to #Partygate”.

In fact hearing you defend the actions, inactions & RELENTLESS LIES of #BorisJohnson during his premiership is sickening.
1/8
I can only assume that you are able to block out the avoidable harm & visceral pain felt by millions of ppl in the UK, since Mar 2020, which could have been lessened by us having a decent, honest, compassionate PM who wasn’t only interested in himself & furthering his career?
2/
You know the type of ppl I am referring to…

Those who died of #COVID, many alone or in hospital, those who couldn’t be w/ their sick or dying loved ones, those who couldn’t attend births/weddings/graduations/funerals/special PARTIES 🍾🥂🎉

Well now, this is v worrying…

Part of the triage process for unwell kids presenting to secondary care includes a ‘#COVID section’.

That’s good obvs, but wait till you hear what the questions are.

#CovidIsNotOver
@IndependentSage @RCPCHtweets @UKHSA @NHSEngland @DHSCgovuk
1/9
1 - has the child or a family member recently travelled abroad?

2 - has the child or a family member recently tested positive for #COVID?

3 - has anyone in the child’s home been asked to isolate for #COVID19 recently?

& it gets worse…much worse.
2/
So if a child/parent/caregiver answers NO to all 3 Qs they’re categorised as ‘#COVID✖️’, which is then handwritten on the front of the paper notes & entered into the computer (presumably for data collection).

NB This information INFORMS other HCWs seeing the child re risk etc
