"As many persons with disabilities said during the visit, they are being offered the choice between a nursing home and medical assistance in dying."
- Report of the Special Rapporteur on the rights of persons with disabilities Dec 19 2019 undocs.org/en/A/HRC/43/41… #CdnPoli#WhyUs
Before #BillC7 amendments were tabled this Report was published demanding a review of the 2016 C14 Medical Assistance in Dying Legislation
Review of the Legislation was outstanding and instead of properly reviewing they put forwards C7 with unprecedented radical policy changes
Among the most radical of these changes is the removal of the requirement that death be reasonably forseeable to access state-assisted suicide
This takes the legislation away from true euthanasia by definition and creates a two-tiered suicide response by the government
Disabled people are the only people who have access to early death under #BillC7
Other people are met with suicide prevention efforts and we would never consider helping them die
What makes Disabled suffering more legitimate? Why discriminate?
Disability Support is provincial but this amendment is to the criminal code itself
That means it's up to each province to make sure Disabled people who can't work have enough money to actually live, how are we doing on that?
In every Canadian province the Disability Supports are below the poverty line and the cost of living has gone up in #Covid19
#Canada is making Disabled people live in poverty and our society is normalizing pushing them towards early assisted suicide #CdnPoli#Eugenics
Our food banks and non-profits are pushed to their max right now by an influx of Disabled people
Canada is starving Disabled people and coercing them into an early state-assisted death
Our society is normalizing seeing Disabled people as "useless eaters" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_unwo…
“In sum, we are deeply concerned that the eligibility criteria set out in Bill C-7… may be of a discriminatory nature, or have a discriminatory impact, as by singling out the suffering associated with disability as being of a different quality and kind than any other suffering"
In #BillC7 that wasn't enough radical policy changes on unreviewed legislation C14
They intend to review, after 2 years, and decide whether having mental illness as a sole qualifier for assisted suicide is appropriate
These changes are unprecedented
There was no race-based analysis in the construction of #BillC7; these policy changes will most affect racialized minorities and they weren't even considered
Among the most concerning is the application to First Nations, Inuit, and Métis
There's little doubt of the bias and prejudice of doctors towards FN peoples when sterilization is concerned; why should MAID be any different? ijrcenter.org/forced-sterili…
Speaking of First Nations?
How did they respond to #BillC7 and being left out of consultations?
How do you want to be treated if you become Disabled?
How do you want to be treated at the end of your life?
#BillC7 raises the most personal kinds of questions and the Canadian government pushed it through in a time where everyone is looking out for themselves first #Covid19
There was supposed to be a review before any other amendments were added
The tabling and process of the Bill coincides with the rise of #Covid19 and Canadians were not well informed about the importance lop.parl.ca/sites/PublicWe…
Hundreds of Disability Organizations including @InclusionCA came out to condemn #BillC7
@CBCNews did not do a fair and balanced coverage of this issue and framed dissent as coming from the religious right to discredit Disability activists & organizations inclusioncanada.ca/2021/02/10/pre…

I assume most Canadians aren't truly aware about #BillC7 and what it means; if they are and truly support this discriminatory suicide response I wonder what comes next?
The only analogy to look at in history is Acktion T4 and what followed is well known!
It really sucks that what it takes to get people to talk about #Autism is a global misinformation campaign that threatens to undermine pandemic response efforts
Jason Kenney once again proving his position of being tough on lives, as long as we get to wear a cowboy hat and watch live animal abuse all the extra death/illness is worth it!
/anger /sarcasm #ABPoli#Covid19#OpenForSummer#Stampede
Usually you have to get into animal agriculture to see abuse of animals live but Albertans make it part of our culture to bring our children along to enjoy it with us at the Calgary Stampede!
Y'all think kink at pride is a problem for kids?
Anyone wanna talk about seeing artificial impregnation, bleeding and scared animals, animals struggling with injuries from the show only to be assured they are gonna be "put out of their misery"
I want to experience romance and sexuality with others in my life in a consensual manner before I go
I want to fail at relationships not because of Autism but because we aren't compatible; Autism makes it difficult to get anyone to interpret me that way most importantly myself
It was easier to accept the prejudice of others than to challenge it for me
People would laugh at the thought of my being a romantic partner; sometimes even joke about it when I tried to flirt
Autism Parents: Only speak to your experience of #Autism
Also Autism Parents: We need full control over Autism funding because Autistic people are getting too politically empowered and speaking out against services WE like
Reminder, Canada has a group of lobbyists and parent advocates that work to advocate for ABA against the stated interests of Autistic self-advocacy groups in the country
Actions against this group have been framed by "progressive" politicians as an "attack on autism services
Remember that when you see an "attack on autism services" referenced by politicians in Canada they are talking about Autism Conversion therapy ABA
It's working to advocate against these lobbyists, people are starting to listen #Autism#BanABA#Cdnpoli
If someone asks you to listen to a minority group don't respond with requests for accounts to follow
If you put in the work yourself to find who in that space fits your values and then follow/boost you will understand the discourse and issues to the point you can help inform
If you don't do this work and expect following a couple people to passively educate you on the issues of minorities you will be lead astray by the trends that erased that population from your perception in the first place
There's a high possibility the people you will be suggested will have the views of the person you asked
This means you could learn to focus on only specific issues, get a filtered and whitewashed version of the theories, or learn from a radical one-sided perspective
