#InformationLaundering thread focusing on Cara Anna of @AP.
1/If there is a prize for #InformationLaundering, it would definitely go to Cara Anna of @AP. Miss Anna seems determined that the Tigray conflict is her ticket to a Pulitzer.
2/ Since the beginning of the conflict on November 4, @AP has produced 86 articles on #Ethiopia. Of these 86 articles, Cara Ana is responsible for a whopping 60% (51 articles). I randomly selected and analyzed 26 of her articles.
3/ All of her articles (100%!!!), portray the GoE negatively and 13 were sympathetic towards #TPLF. The remaining 10 articles conveniently leave out #TPLF out of the picture giving an appearance of the #Ethiopian government waging a war against the Tigrayan people.
4/ With regard to Nov 4, the three articles she wrote early in the war reported that the #TPLF attacked the Northern Command. Following their coverage of an email to @AP from a State Department spokesperson on January 27, she and @AP changed the narrative completely.
In all their subsequent reporting, they resorted to the now familiar phrasing ‘the war broke out when Abiy sent his troops claiming that the #TPLF attacked the base of the NC on November 4.’
5/The narrative Cara Anna pushed early in the conflict was that of massacres, ethnic cleansing and hunger. After the unilateral ceasefire, it shifted towards humanitarian blockade.
She describes the unilateral ceasefire as ceasefire only once and in at least six of her articles, she calls it a retreat/a defeat/a stunning reversal.
6/ In her articles published after the #TPLF invasion of #Amhara and #Afar, she consistently used the passive voice such as the conflict ‘expanded,’ ‘spilled,’ ‘reached.’
When she does talk about these #TPLF misadventures, she uses phrases such as: ‘Tigrayan forces entered Lalibela……..are pushing south….’ She also consistently justified the #TPLFs push as a push to ‘end the blockade against Tigray.
8/In terms of sources, in addition to officials of USAID, State Depratment and HR, CA relies on aid workers (39%), IDPs and ‘refugees’ in Sudan as well as Salsawi Tigray and #TPLF officials, Crisis Group and Alex de Waal’s WPF (52%).
The alleged Axum Massacre is a textbook example of #InformationLaundering. Based on phone conversations she had with unnamed 'survivors,' CA single-handedly manufactured 'a massacre of more than 800 people'.
@AmnestyEARO echoed her reporting after a few days and CA took to her column to echo-back @amnesty's 'independent findings.' there by completing this spectacular circle of #InformationLaundering!
9/ Cara Anna's headlines are loud and designed to evoke outrage and horor, with phrases such as ‘massacre,’ ‘famine,’ ‘bodies floating,’ ‘starvation,’ ‘lost limbs,’ ‘ethnic cleansing,’ ‘catastrophe,’ ‘suffocating Tigray,’……used very generously.
10/ Cara Anna is also curiously fond of referring to PM Abiy’s Nobel Prize which she mentioned in 26 of her 51 articles. It just makes you wonder why the obsession with prizes, Carra?
On the missing UN trucks: 1/ #TPLF invaded #Afar on July 17. Aid delivery was reduced to a trickle. It was routed out of Afar in the first week of September. More that 149 trucks made it to #Tigray. Conclusion: it was #TPLF that was hampering aid delivery.
2/ 428 out of 466 UN trucks that entered #Tigray haven't returned. This raises a host of questions:
- Who was the guarantor in Tigray with whom @WFP was dealing with? #TPLF?
- Where are the trucks now, based on GPS tracking? Any of them in Amhara region?
- Trucks have not been returning since mid-July. Why are we hearing about it only now?
- Where are the drivers of these trucks? Are they detained? What do they say about who took the trucks?
1/ Davison is an employee of the @CrisisGroup, a New York based organization that claims to work to "....prevent wars....& ...build a more peaceful world."
@CrisisGroup claims to be an independent organization but a cursory examination of their finances tells a different story. A very different story!!
Their biggest nongovernmental donor is Soros' Open Society Foundation (nothing to look here)
49% of their funding (19 mill USD) actually came from government grants. And who are these gracious countries? The Netherlands (5.9 mill), Canada (3.5 mill), Norway (1.5 mill), Sweden (1.03 mill). Other funders include EU (2.7 mill), France, Finland and Ireland. 🤔
1/ In July @nytimes described #TPLF#ChildSoldiers as "motivated young fighters" and now @guardian guardian has followed suit with their most recent coverage of the conflict in Ethiopia.
Many #Ethiopians and independent observers are enraged by the portrayal of #ChildSoldiers in the MSM. The refusal of the 'International Community' to unequivocally condemn this exploitation of Tigrayan children has been baffling for for many.
2/ The western world has been objectifiying black bodies for the past 500 years. Look at this pictures of black Africans naked and chained like wild animals or with hands chopped by the soldiers of their Belgian masters, taken by white photographers.

[longer than usual, please indulge me] #TPLF & #Genocide, a love affair, 1991-2021
1/#TPLF came to power in 1991, in the eve of the Yougoslavian civil war and genocide. It was against this backdrop that it started reshaping #Ethiopia into an ethnic federation.
The constitution that remade Ethiopia into an ethnic based state was ratified in 1994, while bodies were floating down Kagera River. While genocide was being facilitated by identification cards that advertise your ethnicity, #TPLF decided to enforce the same rules in Ethiopia.
2/ #TPLF institutionalized animosity between the Amhara & the Oromo which it tended to for three decades. #TPLF always portrayed itself as the only group that can avert imminent bloodshed between the two groups and the disintegration of #Ethiopia.
Whenever the West plans to destabilise a certain region or regime, they mobilize the MSM, AO and HR groups in a concerted manner.
1/The media will start a campaign that prepares the ground for future interventions...
...while swaying public opinion towards the needed direction. They start labeling the government as #totalitarian if not elected, and #populist if elected. Terms such as #genocide#EthnicCleansing#famine would get bandied around. They cultivate a new "reality" on the ground.
2/ Aid organizations would join the chorus and paint a picture of impending humanitarian doom. From one day to the next the number of people facing famine grows in leaps and bounds. The talk shifts towards #unfettered humanitarian access and humanitarian corridors
1/ On July 22 the GOE issued a statement warning, that the #TPLF is transporting dead bodies of its fighters from Afar towards Mekele to stage a fake massacre...
On the face of it this looks like quite a suspicious and rediculous allegation. To start with, how are the #TPLF going to get the body to Tekeze without decomp setting in?
We got the answer thanks to @nimaelbagir|s experts, "the bodies had all been exposed to some form of chemical agent after death, leading to a process which had effectively preserved them before entering the water."
