NEW:

Alberta will offer a one-time payment of $2000 for small- and medium-sized businesses that implement restrictions exemption program (aka vaccine passport program)

#yeg #yyc #ableg #Covid19ab
Kenney says they will implement legislation to protect businesses that require employee vax, or who implement REP program from legal challenges.

They are also doubling max fines for those who harass public-facing workers from $2000 up to $4000.
Minister Schweitzer says many small businesses had questions about workplace vaccines and the REP program- the legislation addresses those concerns.

Adds the $2k program will help with costs to implement REP program - will be live in 4 to 6 weeks for that businesses.
Schweitzer says they have heard of anti-vaxxers harassing small businesses- says this isn't Alberta.

They also want to train employees to learn how to do de-escalation - which is where a million dollars will be put towards such training.

Questions!
Is outbreak reporting at schools is too little, too late?

Kenney says cases among vaccinated school-aged children are declining.

Adds that junior and high schools are better off than last year because of vaccines.
Are we at or beyond the peak based on modelling?

Kenney says he doesn't know if we are past the peak, but that the numbers are moving in the right direction.

Kenney says it is too soon to say that we've beaten this thing, because we are going into Thanksgiving with colder weather for months ahead

We are also expecting waning effects from antibodies- adds we are by no means out of the woods.

Alberta will also ramp up rapid testing and increase public reporting in schools.

Premier Kenney will also encourage schools to establish mandatory vaccination rule.
Contact tracing will begin in a "phased approach" as of Oct. 12. AHS will work with schools and notify close contacts - with AHS taking over notification by mid-November with schools still assisting identifying cases.
