Here's the daily thread for Day 41 of #Russia's full scale war, massacres, rapes + myriad other crimes and war crimes against #Ukraine
Ukraine, a nation which has never been at war in its short recent history until Russia's illegal invasions in 2014 and February 2022
Read on⬇️
Another night of heavy bombardment is ongoing.
Many cities hearing explosions - but most chat on social networks say the sounds seem like Russian missiles being hit by air defences. It's amazing how soon these guys become weapons audio experts.
Many countries stepping up sanctions after the gruesome discoveries in #Bucha.
A host of European countries expelled Russian diplomats with more actions to come.
Meanwhile #Australia has banned exports to Russia of jewelry, wine, vehicles, leather, fur goods + any luxury items.
Over 18,000 Russian troops have died in the war according to #Ukraine. The total is likely to be updated to 18,500 later this morning.
Meanwhile Ukr confirms it has over 600 Russian Prisoners of War detained as of now.
#Russia's also still losing plenty of equipment while #Ukraine's farmers benefit!
This looks in decent condition and likely to be recycled if possible for future use against its original owners.
#Ukraine's 93rd Kholodny Yar brigade has been quietly liberating a number of villages in the southern part of #Kharkiv oblast. a week ago they won the battle for #Trostyanets.
Here are some more trophies in another village now free of Russians
I am expecting more horrors of war to be revealed today in other towns outside of #Kyiv.
#Ukraine's continued the curfew with mines and booby traps left by Russians when they retreated.
Here's a road many foreign reporters may be going on today...
Three more #Ukraine citizens found tortured and murdered.
That's according to Governor of #Sumy state Dmytro Zhyvytskyi.
Ukrainian army found the bodies after Russian troops left the town of #Konotop on Sunday.
A 69 year old journalist has been abducted by Russian forces in #Kherson Oblast.
Previously a journalist there was beaten when snatched.
There are currently three Ukrainian reporters thought to have been "arrested" by the illegal occupiers.
Another drive around another #Kyiv satellite town which saw intense fighting early in the war.
The extent of any war crimes here not yet known - I've not heard any stories from here, but realistically unlikely to have escaped if other places suffered
Ukraine reckons Russians are bypassing sanctions by establishing "smuggling routes" from Asia and Georgia's political leaders have told border guards to turn a blind eye
Reporting on overnight attacks, 3 cruise missiles were reportedly shot down over #Rivne region, while another missile was apparently damaged and failed to hit its target, which Ukraine suspects was critical infrastructure.
Earlier 2 more missiles brought down in Dnipro region
Allegations today of "another Bucha" in the south of #Ukraine.
This post says the sickening scenes in #Bucha near Kyiv (torture, executions) have been repeated in the village of Chervonyi Mayak a coastal village north of #Kakhovka in #Kherson region.
#Russia's schoolkids are subject to even more propaganda and brainwashing.
Schools are told to "teach" children about anti-Russian sanctions. "At the beginning of the lesson the teacher should quote Putin, that Russia is under pressure from outside"
#Russia claims its Black Sea warships hit a training centre in #Ochakiv on the southern tip of the mainland, close to Crimea. They claim the centre was used to train foreign recruits.
Residents in #Luhansk town of #Rubizhne are told to stay inside and close doors and windows.
Russian shelling has hit a tank containing nitric acid according the state governor Serhiy Haidai, who advised civilians to prepare wet face masks in case needed.
The @UN Security Council meeting is under way in New York. #Ukraine's President @ZelenskyyUa is expected to speak soon, his first speech to the United Nations since #Russia launched its illegal war of choice on its neighbour.
The #EU has announced further sanctions on #Russia for crimes in #Ukraine
There are six points in the thread - but these are the main two. More sanctions are to come against individuals, while the EU is to consider specific proposals from its members
Zelenskyy is addressing the United Nations now, immediately talking about the horrors of #Bucha
"They (Russia) called out to see who was in houses and killed entire families including children, and they tried to burn the bodies."
Zelenskyy to #UN:
"They raped women in front of their kids...
They threw them down wells, they cut out their tongues."
Zelenskyy on Russia to #UN
"They support hatred at state level and hope to export it to other nations through their propaganda."
"So where is the security? Where is the peace? There is a Security Council, but no peace."
"The world has yet to see what they have done in other regions of our country. Ladies and Gentlemen I would like to remind you of Article 1, Chapter 1. To achieve peace.
"The most terrible war crimes seen since end of WWII are happening.
Our city of Bucha is only one example."
#Zelenskyy also references MH17 and Syrian war (Chemical weapons), to give examples of Russia denying the proven facts.
He tells the UN:
"It is 2022. We have conclusive evidence. We have satellite evidence. We give maximum cooperation with journalists and investigators."
"Show future war criminals what will happen. Punish the biggest war criminal.
"We are dealing with a state which has abducted 2,000 kids, a country which is killing, looting, destroying everything.
"The UN charter must be restored immediately."
"If tyranny had been stopped just once, this would not have happened to my people.
The people did not want to see Transnistria taken from Moldova, or Georgia or Crimea.
Those responsible must immediately be brought to justice for war crimes."
#Zelenskyy tried to play a video for the meeting, but there's a technical problem in New York at the Security Council.
Britain is chairing the special meeting, and praises the extraordinary fortitude and bravery of the Ukrainian people during this war.
It's now confirmed the news I discovered last night that over 250 #Ukraine soldiers surrendered en masse, supposedly in #Mariupol
Now the only (pro-Russian) journalist embedded with the DNR/Russian armies has released video of the moment of the surrender
Also,(as we saw in MH17) Russia's top "experts" are desperately trying to come up with excuses for the bodies in #Bucha being seen on satellite photos.
The best they came up with so far:
* Maxar lies about the dates/times of the photos
* Hoods on those shot should have come off
Mr Arestovich also declares #Mykolaiv region is completely free of Russian troops.
He said most of the fighting is now inside #Kherson Oblast (region/state). Only this morning I was reporting that Ukraine's troops were being held up in this area.
I tell you one thing - if #Kherson is liberated there may be a lot of reprisals.
There was a lot of hatred, mocking and taunting from pro Russians and the vast majority of patriotic locals have not forgotten the collaborators.
The Ukraine Farmers' Union are just showing off now😅

Confirmation slowly coming that #Borodyanka will be the next town to gain infamy world wide.
I've been writing here about stories I was hearing. Today @ZelenskyyUa mentioned the place to the UN and now his adviser Oleksiy Arestovich says it's worse than #Bucha (translation)
Wow, the trolls are really out in force today.
Loads of nasty comments from the brave, paid, keyboard warriors.
But there's not even any originality. The Jewish President is a Nazi still apparently.
We've reached 6 weeks of full scale war and arguably #Russia is in a worse position than after Day One in #Ukraine.
This is the daily thread on the major developments and my analysis after 20 years working in Ukraine and studying Putin.
Thanks to everyone for tip-offs. Read on!
Bombing and shelling continued in many Ukrainian cities overnight.
Late yesterday #Ukraine said that #Russia was preparing to surrender #Kherson, the only major city it controls.
The UK's daily intelligence update doesn't add much new information.
Following the horrors of #Bucha, the hints from #Borodyanka - I imagine we will get more from other settlements around #Kyiv today.
The capital's police says they've already recorded 1,200 alleged instances of war crimes committed by Russia.
Welcome to the weekend and to Day 38 of the Kremlin war on #Ukraine.
More morale problems for Russia with irradiated troops, heavy losses amid the withdrawal from #Kyiv and still question marks over the bombing of the fuel depot on Russian soil.
All the news, all day, in this🧵
I am still gathering news and data on the Russian attacks on #Ukraine during the night.
#Kharkiv again looks to be worst hit, with endless explosions heard. Some fires burn - this one video submitted. Remember exact locations cannot be revealed, hence the blurring
Day 37 of #Russia's war in #Ukraine and this is Friday's daily thread of news & developments.
First let's have a look at the UK govt's view of the situation today. Ukraine continues to make progress towards breaking the siege of #Chernihiv.
They also still edge towards #Kherson
Sometimes dark humour is the only way to cope when your neighbour has launches a totally unprovoked war on you...
Day 35 of #Russia's war of choice.
5 whole weeks of hatred, death and destruction.
For what?
Talks of peace, and "scaling back" yesterday were followed by missiles fired across #Ukraine at night.
All the news, and a few views of mine, in this thread⬇️
1/2 A few people write saying #Ukraine should compromise or #Ukraine should give up on NATO or Crimea or Donbas etc.
Let me remind you #Ukraine is neutral. It never invaded any country. It was never at war until Russia invaded (twice).
Any compromise is rewarding the aggressor
2/2 It's an old tactic.
Bully. Wage war. Demand unattainable amounts.
Appear to lower your demands and you've compromised! Is everyone stupid?
Please also remember Putin is a compulsive liar. He broke written agreements over Ukraine, he promised not to invade. Do not trust him!
