Proposed powers to sell, redistribute Russian assets may violate international law, says legal expert | CBC News cbc.ca/news/politics/… #Freeland #cdnpoli #Trudeau #Russia #Ukraine️
"CBC News asked the offices of both Finance Minister Chrystia #Freeland, in whose name C-19 stands, and FA Minister Melanie Joly, who's responsible for Canada's sanctions regime, whether the Liberal gov sought or received guidance on whether it complies with international law."
"The only response that specifically addressed CBC's question was offered on background: all bills go through "rigorous legal analysis" before being introduced."
"We go back to the law of the jungle, and that makes Western assets very much vulnerable…" #cdnpoli #Russia #Ukraine #Freeland
"there's debate in the #US & #EU about whether seizing & redistributing Russian assets is a sound move...The (Biden) admin...is wavering on a proposal to seize the #US assets of #Russia's central bank...(This) could undermine the US as a safe place for other countries to invest"
"Canadian officials frequently...promote their diplomatic efforts to uphold the "rules-based international order."
Even if helping #Ukraine is honourable, the #Trudeau gov risks looking hypocritical as it now enacts a domestic law enabling its officials to violate intern'l law"
There is zero debate in #Canada about enshrining the violation of international law into domestic law in Bill C-19 #cdnpoli #Freeland #Trudeau

#Putin on the food crisis says the situation started in 2020 (not after Russia's special mil op in #Ukraine) when, amid pandemic measures, the #US started printing money. "The money supply in the US grew by 5.9 trillion in less than 2 years...The total cash supply grew by 38.6%"
#Putin says "#US financial authorities believed the dollar was a global currency, and it would spread, as usual, as it did in previous years, would dissolve in the global economy, and the US would not even feel it. But that did not happen, not this time."
"decent people – and there are such people in the #US – the Secretary of the Treasury recently said they had made a mistake. So, it was a mistake made by the US financial and economic authorities – it has nothing to do with #Russia's actions in #Ukraine, it is totally unrelated."

"Economics sanctions work when the target is small... (In the case of #Russia,) the GDP metric ignores network effects.
Those networks effects are sufficiently large to render the instrument of economic sanctions unsustainable."

As in #Mariupol
"Sergei Gaidai, the head of the Ukrainian administration of the territories of the Lugansk People's Republic occupied by #Ukraine has now confirmed that the Ukrainian army in #Severodonetsk controls only the industrial zone of the city."

Keep in mind that #Zelensky and co maintained the illusion in the West that #Mariupol wasn't taken by ordering the fighters to stay holed up in the industrial zone of #Azovstal, and they maintained this illusion for a month.
Same thing happening now with #Severodonetsk.

1/ #Trudeau's is the most ideological gov in #Canada's history. Canada is now ruled by an uneducated stubborn man whose only goal is to antagonize Canadians who don't vote for him because they hurt his vanity. #cdnpoli
2/ Today #Trudeau's coalition voted to keep drastic Covid vaccine mandates as restrictions are lifted everyhwere, and Trudeau announced a total freeze on gun ownership because of what's happening in the #US, not because of anything happening in Canada. #cdnpoli
3/ We are stuck with #Trudeau until 2025 because his minority gov receives the unconditional support of a small party, the NDP. If Trudeau continues along the same line, and he will, I expect Canadians to realize by the time his mandate ends the damage he's done to the country.

Every day is a groundhog day when it comes to the #EU banning Russian oil.
The fact that EU reps have been talking about banning Russian oil every day for 3 months, while each time claiming unity and consensus, means they're unable to enforce a total ban
But even a partial ban, which these fools are trying to enforce without having laid out in advance any alternatives, is a foolish thing to do. The #EU is ruled by dangerous bureaucrats. #Russia #Ukraine
Belgian PM: "Your foreign policy can only survive if your middle class is still able to defend it...Having the buy-in from our population is an important thing because I fear we're in for a long period of instability & we need to make sure that people are not suffering too much"
