Last day of June so we will be finishing off with a week of #SafeguardingFail s from the inbox.
Day 1: Contrary to legislation a #Cambridgeshire school has responded “it is not viable to provide copies of all curriculum materials to parents” to being asked to share resources.
Day 2: Again a refusal to share materials with parents on request, this time school in north of England. ‘Copyright’ was given as the excuse this time. As has been confirmed in today’s #RSEDebate this is incorrect. #SafeguardingFail#PSHEPeeps
Day 3: A school in the south of England has invited the school of sexuality in to discuss pleasure & make playdough vaginas with year 8 girls. They are denying to parents that they have the right to withdraw their children from these lessons. #SafeguardingFail#RSEDebate#PSHE
Day 4: Again south of England a school arranged a dress up for #pride Day & bring in donations for the controversial educate & celebrate charity, led by the even more controversial Peter Tatchell. Yr 8’a were seen wearing cats ears and saying they were furries. #SafeguardingFail
Day 5: A primary school in England told small children men can have babies too. They have not even responded to parental emails of complaint. #SafeguardingFail#PSHEPeeps#PrimaryRocks
Day 6: School in south of England has organised a residential for yr 9’s with mixed sex overnight accommodation. Again ignoring parental complaints. #SafeguardingFail#edutwitter#WomenEd
Day 7: Again south of England (they’re not doing well this week) a college thinks they have the right to refuse to correspond with parents of a 16 year old, bizarrely they also think they can refuse to take a formal complaint about this undermining of Parental responsibility.
Thread 1) Following a parent webinar last night of Oxfordshire schools in association with @OfficialFFLAG we need a whole thread to detail this #SafeguardingFail. Not once during the hour long webinar was #safeguarding mentioned.
2) Instead we were treated to incorrect & alarming suicide/self-harm statistics - no wonder parents are terrified of getting this wrong. There were recommendations for Mermaids, Gendered Intelligence, The Proud Trust & Intercom Trust. All organisations which raise red flags.
3) Teachers from within the partnership did share "difficult" questions but the answers were concerning. Should lesbians be allowed to exclude trans girls from their dating pool on account of them being male? "Oh, that is a difficult question to answer". It really shouldn't be.
THREAD Once again we are deeply disappointed with @NEUnion's understanding of #safeguarding. The NEU is once again putting politics ahead of what is in the best interests of children. Their latest statement on conversion therapy demonstrates this acutely. neu.org.uk/press-releases…
There were so many things wrong with this survey the article was unable to cover them all. They ranged from the merely incompetent/ridiculous to damaging & triggering for vulnerable children. This box ticking approach to #safeguarding & #inclusion is simply unacceptable. #WomenEd
Primary school children are asked how they identify but not for their biological sex. This renders the data worthless, is evidence of the extent of ideological capture & is dangerous & confusing for young children @SHRNWales@DECIPHerCentre@cardiffuni#edutwitter#WalesWomen
It admits on page 3 that it is a political document. @KemiBadenoch has been unequivocal that the government are against Black Lives Matter (the political group, not the sentiment) in schools. (See speech here fb.watch/aVXWerr27N/). This is against the 1996 Education Act. #PSHE
We have recently been approached for advice on raising safeguarding concerns about individuals. The best way to raise concerns is always by following procedures. Presently there are a lot of concerns about frameworks failing & concerns being ignored, resulting in #whistleblowing
Obviously it is best if concerns about individuals & policies are raised direct with their organisation & are immediately dealt with. Widespread failures to deal with concerns have resulted in people taking to social media. We are preparing a new guide to assist, until then…
This is a good read. It is aimed at schools but there are lessons here for all individuals & organisations on raising, dealing with & recording concerns. Everybody must be free to raise concerns, no matter how small. Those concerns must be taken seriously & recorded.
THREAD Welcome to our new followers. Thank you for joining us on our mission to uphold #safeguarding & ensure all children grow up safe from maltreatment in the best possible circumstances so they may have a successful outcome in life. This is who we are: safeschoolsallianceuk.net/who-we-are/
If you have any questions, look here. We receive no public money, all work & research is completed by volunteers. The only money we have is donations from the public which we are grateful for, these are spent on the website, resources & attending events. safeschoolsallianceuk.net/frequently-ask…
