1. The latest @CRSOfficial report on the @usnavy Next-Generation Logistics Ship (NGLS) Program.
Let's have a look at what they have set out and what looks good and what may be some pitfalls.
2/First, the @USNavy is looking for procurement of the first ship in FY26 at a cost of $150M. This is roughly the cost of a T-EPF and one-third the cost of a new T-AO.
Not sure that this timeline or cost will be accurate based on the specifications.
3/Terminology may not seem important, but if these ships will be operated by @MSCSealift, that means that will lack any A2/AD capabilities; which based on the concept of ops, may be an issue. Some MSC ships have defensive weapons, but small arms and limited point defense.
2/#SpiritOfNorfolk obviously lost power as she drifted into the path of the bulker, Spar Lyra.
That ship caught a buoy on her stern and two Moran tugs, chartered by @MSCSealift to provide towing services at the base had to assist the vessel from evading the containment boom.
3/In a press briefing that afternoon, the Fed Fire Chief noted that they had adopted a defensive stance.
Due to the flooding from firefighting, and the location of the fire in the engine room, they were not permitting personal on board due to risk.
