Hi there. Tuesday 16 August - Daily thread number 174 of #Russia's illegal war.

Updated in real time, all the news and analysis from #Ukraine and beyond relevant to the conflict⬇️

It certainly looks like the Kremlin's trying to take revenge for the attack on Wagner mercenaries
In many cities of #Ukraine it's been an almost incessant night of air-raid sirens and explosions.

It's continuing now and started yesterday evening - if you missed anything, scroll through the thread for Day 173 here:

#StandWithUkraine #StopRussia

So right now reports of ANOTHER 7 missiles fired at #Kharkiv, which looks worst affected by tonight's "revenge attacks" by #Russia.

Around 100 Wagner troops may have been killed in #Popasna yesterday, so during the night wave after wave of attacks on #Ukraine.

#StopRussiaNOW
Earlier #Sloviansk was badly hit, as I reported in yesterday's thread. Now hearing that the nearby village of #Yasnogorka/Yasnohirka has been badly hit.
Electricity is out and reports of casualties.

A little further on the road #Kramatorsk also reports another explosion
#Finland trolling Russian tourists.
I saw this earlier in Russian, now @AFP has the story in English.

When they cross the border one of the first photo-stops for many Russians is a music and water show - but now there's a twist💙💛
Enjoy!
#Kharkiv - one of the many arrivals to evade air defences in the north-eastern city.

#Kharkov #StopRussianAggression #RussiaIsATerroristState
A light enhanced photo from #Kramatorsk.

Many shells have fallen in the city and its "twin" #Sloviansk tonight.

#StandWithUkraine #StopRussia
Two people have been injured after a fire and detonation of ammunition in occupied #Crimea.

Areas around the site in Dzhankoi have been evacuated.

#Russia says this one not down to #Ukraine, safety breaches or smoking but "a fire in a substation" 🤥

#SlavaUkraini
The update from London points to #Russia "struggling to exercise effective sea control"

Also last night due to a storm, most of the Black Sea Fleet retreated to port.

#StopRussia
It's reported here that #Ukraine Partisans in #Crimea are posting leaflets with the coordinates of "the next targets for the Armed Forces" and "Save your life - evacuate".

The Resistance names airbases and Sevastopol's Belbek international airport.

The first guaranteed photos from #Crimea showing damage to the rail track following the explosion at an ammo dump this morning.

All railway traffic to the mainland has been suspended for the time being.

#CrimeaIsUkraine #StopRussia
Here is a video of the original explosions following the supposed "fire" in occupied #Crimea.

A little less ammo to kill innocent Ukrainians with.

#StandWithUkraine #StopRussia #RussiansGoHome
Occupying authorities in #Crimea claim the track has already been repaired and will undergo safety inspections. They hope to reopen the line this afternoon.

Meanwhile passengers are being transferred to buses to start (or complete) their journey to #Russia.

#StopRussia
#Russia's Defence Minister outlined a number of "friendly states" in Africa.

Burundi, Republic of Guinea, Cameroon, Mali, Sudan, Uganda, Chad, Ethiopia, South Africa support Russian action according to Sergei Shoigu.
Seen in #Crimea!

The Resistance is cranking up the pressure on the Russian Occupiers.

Basically, run, evacuate, time to go.
24 August is #Ukraine's Independence Day

At the start of the thread I concentrated on #Russia's overnight bombardment.

#Kharkiv city saw 5 of its 9 districts bombed.

There was also widespread damage in the region. This is Danylivka near the state border with #Donetsk.

#StopRussiaNOW
This morning the price of Brent Crude oil dipped below $94 a barrel.
That's the lowest since #Russia invaded #Ukraine almost 6 months ago.

#StandWithUkraine
The devastation in #Mykolaiv (RU: #Nikolaev) has also been revealed by police.

#Russia's missiles damaged 14 infrastructure facilities according to officials.

The villages of Limany, Shirokoye, Chervonaya Dolina, Lepetikha, Kavkaz, Pervomayskoe and Zaichevskoe were all hit.
Reportedly seen on @TurkishAirlines
WTF?????

Anyone flying on Turkish soon able to verify?
I've hearing that #Ukraine has (also) hit a warehouse of equipment in another part of occupied #Crimea.

It's said a drone dropped explosives on Gvardeisky in #Simferopol region.

Some believe a drone hit is also the likely reason for the earlier Dzhankoy blasts

#SlavaUkraini
More ramblings of an insane old man.

Read the translation in the speech by Putin.
Now remind me who invaded a European country?
Which country bombs its neighbour every day.
How many missiles in Russia?

The gnome is a war criminal.
#Russia admits the explosions at #Dzhankoy in #Crimea were "sabotage"

Meanwhile Russian media starting to report the reported attack on a military base near #Simferopol.

The sky is clear now as this photo shows, but earlier there was smoke and multiple explosions.
No further reports from #Zhytomyr yet, where a little earlier explosions were reported.

The Mayor has confirmed some missiles, but no photos nor details yet. But much of the country is now under air raid warnings again.

#SaveUkraine #StopRussia
#Kharkiv - another missile hits the city.
A strong fire is visible in Tsirkuny, just outside the city itself, to the north-east.

#Kharkov #StopRussia #RussiaIsATerrorristState
Sometimes in occupied #Donetsk, public showers are available.

But only after heavy rainfall😉

#Russia's development continues!
#Russia's FSB just issued this statement:
"Ukrainian saboteurs on 4, 9 + 12 August blew up power transmission towers through which the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant supplies industrial facilities, transport, social infrastructure & the population of #Kursk and neighboring regions."
Something burning in #Donetsk right now.

#StopRussia
#Kharkiv has been attacked again this afternoon.
Under martial law, early videos have to be censored to avoid identification of locations until the authorities permit it.

#StandWithUkraine #StopRussia
Catching up with a few stories while I was at the tennis:

First, more sabotage inside #Russia, and again in the #Kursk region

The saboteurs chose a railway line which only carried freight. An IED which investigators say had "about 200 grams of TNT" was detonated under the rail.
#Russia has unexpectedly closed the #Crimea bridge. Drivers have been told all traffic is stopped until 06:00 in the morning.

#Ukraine sources say this is not a safety measure - more likely some of the top personnel are escaping to the mainland under cover of darkness.
#Ukraine scored a direct hit on a Russian base in #Lysyschansk today.

Around 100 fighters are thought to have been killed in the attack in #Luhansk region, according to the exiled Governor Serhiy Haidai.

#StopRussia
Still no photos released from #Zhytomyr, bombed earlier.

#Ukraine says a military airfield was damaged when Russian Su-34 planes took off from Belarus, pretending to be on a training flight when they fired X-59 guided missiles on the city.

Officially no injuries - I doubt that.
The @UN Sec Gen, @antonioguterres will come to #Ukraine on Thursday to meet @ZelenskyyUa and #Turkiye President Erdogan.

They'll meet in #Lviv and then #Odesa on Friday to discuss nuclear power concerns, grain export and "the search for a political solution to the war."
#Kharkiv has been shelled at least twice more today.

Five rockets landed in the latest attack a couple of hours ago.

A fire rages in #Zolochiv, presumably as a result of an incoming missile, but not confirmed.

#StandWithUkraine #RussiaIsATerrorristState
So another day comes to a close. It's already well beyond midnight in #Ukraine of course and a surprisingly quiet night thus far.

#Sumy reports 130 rockets were fired in the region throughout the day, but even that is down on recent days.
There were no casualties.

#StopRussia

Welcome to a new week and the daily thread for Monday on #Russia's illegal war in #Ukraine

Day 173

A manic end to yesterday - I'll recap a little, but if you want to scroll through, here's the link:

Firstly, you guys got me to 20,000 followers, so thank you all so much💙💛

Honest reporting, fact-checked as much as humanly possible, but I still know right from wrong.

This week I have a lot of commentary work, but will try to be as quick as ever with updates throughout.
News breaking right now is another night-time attack on #Kharkiv

There have been multiple explosions in the city so far and more rockets on the way according to tracking.

The missiles have landed near the centre according to early reports

I hope you get the chance for a peaceful and relaxing Sunday. That's something many thousands in #Ukraine haven't had for almost 6 months.

It's Day 172 of #Russia's invasion and here's the daily thread with all the news and analysis you need, updated throughout the day⬇️
Quite a bit of late action on yesterday's thread. You can scroll through yesterday's thread here if you need a catch up:

#StandWithUkraine #StopRussia

Potentially good news from @amnesty

The organisation's pledged to have its' "#Ukraine report" examined by independent experts.

Amnesty International says it "wants to understand what exactly went wrong" according to Deutsche Welle.

Appointing @AgnesCallamard perhaps?

🇺🇦🇷🇺WAR: Day 171 - my daily thread.

#Russia's war crimes continue; none was possible without the first - Putin's decision to invade a peaceful neighbour.

A lot of late news from #Ukraine in yesterday's thread - if you missed it, click and scroll⬇️

Britain's daily update points out the vulnerability of Russia's invaders west of the Dnipro river in occupied #Kherson region.

In fact 5 bridges in the region are now unusable despite frantic ongoing repair efforts.

#StandWithUkraine #StopRussia
#Ukraine's South Division stated in its morning update the bridge near the Kakhovka Hydroelectric plant was the latest hit.
Some locals report this bridge is still being used but it's probably not safe for heavy vehicles.
There are more explosions reported now in #Lyubimivka

We have reached day 170 of #Russia's war of choice.

The last 48 hours have been perhaps the quietest for #Ukraine since the full invasion on 24 February. But already today (Friday) there is a big attack on #Kharkiv

This is the link to y'day's thread:
Four loud explosions heard in central #Kharkiv within the last 20 minutes.

Here's the first video. You can see the flash of the explosion in the bottom left just 5-6 seconds in, followed a long time later by the sound blast, showing the distance.

#RussiaIsATerroristStare
Something seems to have gone wrong with air defence in #Kharkiv tonig I'm afraid. Four missile launches were noted and warned of and four explosions in the city.

This is reported to be the third of the hits on the city in north-east #Ukraine.

Welcome to Thursday's daily thread documenting #Russia's war on #Ukraine.

It's Day 169 of the illegal invasion.
If you need a recap of yesterday's events, here's the link to the start of the thread.

The first ship to legally leave #Ukraine's Black Sea ports with food since the war, has still not managed to dock

The #Razoni has now headed back to dock near Mersin on #Turkiye's southern coast. It left #Odesa last week with its cargo of corn, but supposedly cannot find a buyer
Interesting news overnight in #Belarus where around 8 small explosions were reported at the Zyabrovka airfield.

#Russia has taken over this site near #Homel and launched numerous strikes on #Ukraine from here.

Belarus says "an engine fire" was to blame, which seems unlikely.

Welcome to Wednesday's daily thread on #Russia's attack on #Ukraine.

It's Day 168 of the war, but all the buzz and chat is about what happened yesterday in #Crimea. Here's the link to yesterday's thread.

We are still no nearer knowing the real reason for the devastating blow to #Russia on #Crimea

#Ukraine again denies it's anything to do with them, but no-one believes the RU version of an "accident"

To get an idea of the force of the blasts, watch the last few seconds of this:
13 people are dead after shelling in #Dnipropetrovsk region this morning. 11 more civilians are injured.

12 died when around 40 grads hit the centre of #Maryanets near Nikopol. Two schools and more than 20 high rise apartment blocks were hit.
