What's most fascinating about #Pfizer and the #unvaccinated is that is offers a unique insight into a surprising difference between China and the West. You must read this thread 👇
Many people would imagine that #China would be super strict with #vaccines and force it's citizens to get the jab. Interesting enough there is a large amount of #unvaccinated seniors throughout China who are both sacred of the virus, but also scared of the vaccine.
Earlier this year #China announced it would require seniors in Beijing to get the vaccine (Covid cases were surging and unvaccinated elderly were at high risk) but when the news came out, there was huge public backlash against the Chinese government. What did they do in response?
China's government listened to the people and allowed them to remain #unvaccinated. The EU trade commission was outraged and slammed China's government on the decision (they wanted to hopefully see China require vaccines and open borders to do business) but China didn't care
Meanwhile in Canda (the country I lived for the entire pandemic) #unvaccinated were treated as 2nd class citizens. Our prime minister #JustinTrudeau them called them racist and misogynistic extremists. If you protested against Trudeau's mandatory vaccine requirements he enacted a
security law that allowed the Canadian government the ability to freeze your bank accounts and shut down protests. China's government is more strict than most Western governments but it's an interesting case study to see China offer more freedom when it came to vaccines. #Pfizer

While Western countries criticize #China and its Belt and Road Initiative, China ignores the noise, keeps it's head down, and get's work done. Here is the new China-built Pelješac Bridge, a key infrastructure project in #Croatia. This bridge is a gamechanger & here is why:
(1/4)
The 2.4 km bridge connects the Croatian mainland with the Peljesac Peninsula of its southernmost Dubrovnik-Neretva County, bypassing a short strip of land belonging to Bosnia and Herzegovina. This bridge now gives Croatia territorial integrity and better access to the area (2/4)
Construction companies from Italy, Turkey, Austria, and China all bid for the job but #China won the bid as they offered the most affordable price and also offered to complete the project 6 months faster than anyone else.

I'm very worried about Shanghai and the future of #China....what's happened in the past few weeks has changed the future of China. Some of you will agree with my analysis and some of you won't, but here is a thread 🧵 on the #COVID19 situation in #Shanghai:
Yesterday Shanghai registered 994 locally transmitted #COVID19 cases and 22,348 local asymptomatic carriers, the first time the number of asymptomatic infections decreased since April, but the city has to continued strengthening its strict prevention measures.
The vast majority of new infections are now among people in quarantine/”closed-loop management”. This is why China sends all positives, close contacts (密接) & contacts of close contacts (次密接) to centralized facilities, to break the transmission chains as quickly as possible
Jamie Dimon, the Chairman and CEO of JP Morgan wrote about the future of America 🇺🇸 and China 🇨🇳 in his annual letter. Here are some of the highlights:
The most important relationship over the next 100 years will be the one between #America (and its allies) and #China.
The stronger the allied nations, the better it is for America. But for #America to get this essential relationship right, we need to have a clear-eyed view of our strategic economic and national security interests.
#America & #China have large differences: ideological, democracy vs single-party rule, market capitalism vs state-controlled capitalism. We also have common interests: halting nuclear proliferation, reducing terrorism, stopping climate change & promoting peaceful relationships
Several people are tweeting at me saying there is no #HumanRights in #China, if there is, then show me the proof! 😡you want proof, well then let’s go! A thread...
In #China people don’t have to worry about walking on the streets at night and getting shot, mugged, stabbed, or raped. China remains one of the safest countries in the world! How about the fact that
#China hasn’t been in a war since 1979? Instead of allocating >50% of national budget to military #America, China spends its money on reinvesting back into its country to help its citizens, the results? 700 million lifted out of poverty, and poverty to be eliminated end of year..
(Thread) It’s shocking to see the actions of Secretary of State Mike #Pompeo and the immaturity of #US Government officials. Now they are ordering #China to close its consulate in Houston for protection of American interests? If this goes through, #Beijing will retaliate
and order the closing of the US consulate in #HongKong and further weaken US-China relations. I'm worried about war between #US & #China.
This is very different than the threats of a war with the Soviet Union during the #ColdWar era. Why?
Because at that time the Soviet’s economy was crumbling. China has a strong military and even stronger economy. They also remember 150 yrs of suffering through the Opium Wars. #China will not be intimidated by #America.
You know what really sucks about the #coronavirus? How divided #America and #China will be when the dust settles...even before the virus happened, there was a huge anti-China sentiment rising in the West...why? Because Western government’s just can’t wrap their heads around what
China’s one party system has been able to accomplish in the last 30 years. Therefore every Western news station is trained to spread fear about China. We are told that Communism = Evil, and that the CCP is an evil empire. Have you ever been to #China before? Weren’t we taught as
children to never judge a book by its cover? Have you ever spoken to someone from China and asked them what they think about their country? What the government has been doing for their people?
