1. as Italian politicians consider unprecedented #surveillance measures to stop #COVID spreading, a former head of the Italian #Carabinieri's special unit, #GIS, issues a comment hinting at his despise for open societies and leftists
2. Italy's #Carabinieri had a well-known role in fighting #Communism during the #ColdWar, when Italy had the biggest #CommunistParty in Europe. So this comment by the former head of the Italian #Carabinieri's special unit,#GIS, comes as no surprise
3. Personally,I believe this comment by the former head of the Italian #Carabinieri's special unit, who despise open societies and leftist,is a precious WARNING in these days when Italians are ready to accept unprecedented #surveillaince measures officially intended to stop #COVID

1.A quick thread about General Patton’s death and the spread of Communism.
(If unfamiliar with General’s story, Ronald Regan narrates this 30 min official video about Patton’s life.)

But lets dig deeper…
2.As WWII was coming to a close General Patton wanted to continue the fight against Communism, believing he could crush the Soviets in 6 weeks. Patton believed we had not liberated Europe and had set the conditions for the Cold War.
3. General Patton was angry about the political failures of WWII. His intimate knowledge of WWII coupled with his fearlessness & popularity made him a threat to many powerful people who wanted him dead.

Today I want to talk about the intersections between Indigenous people and space industry.
First, some definitional stuff. I am not using Indigenous as a simple adjective here - the common meaning is 'originating or occurring naturally in a particular place".
In the context of global history, Indigenous people were the landowners when European invaders arrived in their countries from the 1400s onwards.

While the Niti Aayog is still struggling to understand what cracked the Indian economy and how, heres a brief summary of our 2016 report explaining in detail the geoeconomic threat including its origins & what made the situation even worse & why its happening now!
The seeds for current economic situation in India were sown in 80s by US President Ronald Reagan. He economic reforms said tax policies that benefit wealthy will create “trickle-down” effect to poor - trickle-down economics or voodoo economics #Reaganomics greatgameindia.com/global-war-cas…
These strategies of #Reaganomics were born of the #ColdWar and Reagan’s 1983 “Evil Empire” speech set the tone for a more aggressive US posture against the Soviet Union. The result was a series of top-secret national security decision directives (NSDDs).

1/ Final thoughts the Global #ColdWar after teaching it for the first time this semester and fielding student feedback. Some of this might be commonsensical to specialists but are new to me as a legal and economic historian of China.
2/ There are undoubtedly many ways to teach the #ColdWar. Most syllabi on @SHAFRhistorians and elsewhere tend to focus on US foreign relations or US and the world. But more are adopting new perspectives de-centering US-USSR rivalry and elite diplomacy. bit.ly/2K2P4Bd
3/ My own approach was inspired by Arne Westad’s point that the #ColdWar was waged primarily in Third World and far from cold. Unable or unwilling to wage war directly, superpowers and their allies confronted each other indirectly around the globe. bit.ly/2K63uR8

It is remembered as one of darkest day in Thai Cold War history because there were many people died that day due to the fight between the students and government forces.
It started with “Thai students’ activism” which inspired by leftist ideology mobilizing and organizing demonstrations and rallies against the pro-American policies of the ruling government and ruling government itself.

Denmark is only a little country. Only 47,000 or so km² and at the height of the #ColdWar in the '80s, the population was just under 5m.

But it's strategic importance for both NATO and the Warsaw Pact nations, cannot be overstated.
Geographically, Denmark sits like a bung at the western end of the Baltic Sea, essentially blocking access to the North Sea, at least from the point of view of the forces on the eastern side of the #IronCurtain.
So, when the Warsaw Pact drew their contingency plans to attack Western Europe in the 1950's, these plans in essence called for the obliteration of the Kingdom of Denmark, making Denmark unihabitable for NATO forces and allowing naval access to the North Sea.

Everyone's heard of #FakeNews. Before it was called fake news, it was called #disinformation. The goal is to cause confusion and chaos, so people don't know who to trust or what to believe. THREAD 1 #RussianCollaborators #Propaganda #FridayFeeling #FridayMotivation
Disinformation promotes so much misleading & false info that people lose faith, give up. Disinformation is designed to weaken the enemy by discrediting it with lies and "leaks" of damaging "info". Hint: the enemy is us, the resistance. 2 washingtonpost.com/news/worldview…

For over a year we’ve been bombarded with rhetoric about #Russia #NorthKorea and #Iran yet no one seems to remember Clinton/Gore but we should, it’s important.
(2) #ClintonGore ran in 92’ consciously ignoring foreign policy and there’s no doubt America had war fatigue. Gore’s slogan was “it’s the economy stupid” and when they won despite the #ColdWar having just ended both of them barely even mentioned #Russia
(3) #ClintonGore inherited a political dream of sorts. For the first time #Russia was eager and willing to work with America they were cooperating across the spectrum and agreements with Bush Sr. were in place to reduce nuclear arsenals by 66% Democracy was at its most popular.
