Guys, we go again! No rest on the frontline for the brave warriors defending #Ukraine, so the least I can do is report on it and the least you can do is read and spread the news, ensure there is NO war fatigue.
Welcome to Saturday's news thread, Day 304 of #Russia's illegal war:
So much happened yesterday, including numerous fires in Russia, in Moscow in particular.
Then there was a likely assassination in Melitopol and reported drone attacks on Crimea.
Missed something? No problem... click and scroll yesterday's thread:
I've spent most of the last 24 hours working on my script for the upcoming short film about Ukraine; how heroics in the war may be hiding some problems in society.
I didn't even touch on the planning law, where a Minister has asked the G-7 to observe
Amid talk of a possible new attack on #Ukraine from the north, the daily British Intel update casts doubt on whether #Russia has enough ammo and missiles to even defend the frontline, let alone launch an offensive.
1/2 It's exactly 10 months ago today that #Russia broke international law and invaded #Ukraine despite repeated promises to international leaders it would not do so.
I want peace, everyone wants peace.
But today's war happens exactly because allies did not confront Putin earlier
2/2
The West did nothing in Georgia in 2008
Did nothing in Crimea and the Donbas in 2014
Even prior to that no action or even a hint at war crimes for Chechnya, then Syria.
"Peace" now will repeat past mistakes, allow Putin to learn lessons, re-arm and come back stronger.
The two people badly injured in the #Kemerovo nursing home fire (see previous tweets), have now died.
It brings the death toll to 22.
The owner of the reportedly unregistered home has already been charged. #RussiaOnFire
Got to say I'm surprised and a little disappointed they didn't use the "Mein Kampf" trick.
#Russia here claiming a successful operation to detain an "Azov Nazi Terrorist" in #Luhansk.
Looks staged to me, especially the powder puff explosion at the end😅
#Russia's Occupiers also claim to have arrested eight partisans of #Ukraine in #Kherson region.
Meanwhile some locals in Occupied bits of #Zaporizhzhia say they're being told tomorrow there is an all-day curfew in some places. They panic about locations being leaked to #Ukraine.
1/2 #Russia has today pumped out masses of new documents and allegations against the USA & big Pharma companies and individuals.
It's the usual hints at biolabs abroad, including #Ukraine. When the UN or someone impartial takes it seriously I'll listen more seriously...
2/2 What is interesting is that #Russia's MoD specifically calls out Democrats.
Obviously Conspiracy Theorists and a large section of the GOP are all over this - just before Republicans take control of the The House and could try to block future funding to Ukraine.
Nice tale here of Transatlantic help with Christmas spirit!
Guys from @westportctgov are trying to twin with #Lyman. Tomorrow volunteers plan to deliver 400 hot meals to the devastated town still recovering from Occupation.
I've just heard an 8th person has died in #Kherson after the attack on civilians in the centre of the city.
Deputy Council leader Yuriy Sobolevsky says the Silpo supermarket was struck: on a Saturday before new year. An atrocious war crime.
Fire spread to the city's main market
The deputy of the party of #Moldova's President says there should be no negotiations with #Transnistria as he hopes (with #NATO + #Ukraine's help) to demilitarise the "breakaway" region, ruled by #Russia.
Earlier I told how Russia's occupiers telling some residents they wouldn't be allowed to leave their home tomorrow.
Well in #Hornostaivka in #Kherson region, 30km upriver from #Kakhovka, locals are now told they cannot leave their homes until 3 January.
Thank you @Hopeful11212715 for buying me a coffee! 💙💛
Really needed these days!
A guy with almost 300k followers posts fakes. No checking. Promises to take it down if it's fake - doesn't do so.
Pic 1 - FAKE photoshopped claim of SS symbol.
Pic 2 - Original: clear to see number 46 (battalion number)
Pic 3 - Does it look genuine when using @FotoForensics?
Life expectancy isn't that high in #Russia, so the death of a 67yo man is not shocking
So why does my eyebrow raise when I learn of the sudden unexplained death of Aleksandr Buzakov?
He headed "Admiralty Shipyards", which makes submarines which carry Kalibr cruise missiles.
Sarah, Kyle and Krissi all bought me a "ko-fi" - thanks so, so, so much and Merry Christmas to you all.
Hope you don't mind if I actually sip something a little stronger tomorrow!
💙💛
I know it's incredibly cold in #Murmansk in #Russia's frozen north. But they really should stop setting fire to things!
This #RussiaOnFire incident is at the 'Faktor' plant which supplies ships and boats.
In Occupied #Kakhovka, in #Kherson oblast, reports of both incoming and outgoing rockets at the same time.
Very loud right now in the town which sits on the banks of the River Dnipro.
Locals in #Kakhovka and nearby are strongly suggesting #Russia is firing on the town itself.
People are saying there's only two seconds between launch and impact and can only come from Russian positions.
Putin's response was to bomb the cr*p out of Ukraine's capital again overnight.
It's decency against inhumanity. Which side are you on?
Welcome to THE daily thread.
Wednesday was a fairly quiet day, punctuated by the odd Russian missile attack, before another enormous attack centre on Kyiv.. and it's still going on.
But Ukraine hit back in Russia.
Missed anything? Click and scroll, but please come back!
Tuesday 29 July. Day 1252.
Documenting all the important stories and developments in Ukraine's ongoing fight for survival against an invading horde.
Every Single Day. No break, no days off.
All the news from the war in Europe, all the time.
Monday was probably a better day for Ukraine.
We saw Trump appear to lose patience with indicted war criminal Putin, we saw a Ukraine flag replanted in one reclaimed village & late in the thread more strikes on Russia's rail infrastructure.
I'll begin in Rostov region, where earlier Ukraine hit railway infrastructure in the town of Salsk.
Pretty much the whole of the rail network in Rostov oblast is crucial to Russia's military. The proximity to occupied parts of Ukraine & the route to Crimea run through here.
Day 1247
It's never ending. At least it feels like it after another sleepless night and "peace talks" that lasted 40 minutes and Russia still refusing Trump's demand for a ceasefire, which Ukraine agreed to 135 days ago.
All the news, all the time, it's the daily Ukraine🧵
A quick reminder if you appreciate my work (and lack of sleep) you can donate coffee via the link in my bio🙏
But this is the link you probably really want! To check back on all yesterday's news, especially when Russia was attacked late at night.
You've found the start of another daily thread. I've not missed one day since Russia's full invasion, bringing all the Ukraine news in one handy thread every single day.
It's Day 1246, let's begin.
A late finish last night for me (yeah, not unusual), so a later start.
But not due to a massive Russian attack, but because of the political situation & public backlash
Another bumper thread, big Ukraine street protests for the 1st time in years in here
The biggest thing today will hopefully be the resumption of talks between Ukraine and Russia.
The meeting will again take place in Istanbul, starting at 7pm UKR time, 5PM BST, noon EST.
Venue is the Çırağan Palace - can't wait to hear reporters butcher that name😂 [Cheer-raan]
Day 1245
One thousand, two hundred + forty-five days of battling to survive against what was said to be the world's 2nd greatest army.
Ukraine's resistance has been heroic but still a lot of work to do.
I'm starting Tuesday's thread before sleep as the air attack just ended.
Monday's thread was another 50-post marathon
A lot of problems for Russia, with drones, planes, trains and the elements. But another major Ukraine city was hit in the early hours of this morning.
