This morning I heard "TV vet" Scott on BBC Five Live in a surprisingly emotional interview.
It also highighted some of the unseen problems such as "orphaned" or abandoned pets now having pups or kittens of their own in the wild.

Thank you to Ali, Carolynne and David for submitting story suggestions via DM today - indeed it was Carolynne who spotted the last one.
UK Intel highlights another fairly pointless announcement by #Russia.
It's all designed to give the impression to their own soldiers and the domestic audience back home that "everything is going to plan"
P.S. they fail to mention none of the 4 regions is under total🇷🇺 control🤡
In #Belgorod they're trying to downplay the scale of the huge fire in #Borisov

LOL. I hope this is true.
Someone (pretending to be) from #Ukraine's Security Service hacked a regional meeting of the Occupiers, informed the meeting they were on the wanted list and blasted the Ukrainian National Anthem.
Those who smiled could be in trouble😅
The bodies of British humanitarian volunteers, Chris Parry + Andrew Bagshaw are back in #Kyiv.
There was a memorial service in Kyiv this week. There's a lovely article about UK/NZ national Andy here inc a video of the 2 working
#Ukraine's army loves TikTok.
Well to be more accurate they love watching #Russia's troops record videos of their locations, such as here.
It was soon geolocated and now the TikTok stars are deleted from life according to ZSU.
Oops, this missed the thread, so including it now:
These are only rumours but from the same MPs who predicted other departures successfully. They believe Reznikov will be moved to the President's Office.
Tomorrow Kyivans will be able to use electricity without restriction until 4pm.
I cannot remember the last time this was the case.
The situation in #Odesa, after the earlier fire at the substation, has improved also. But there will be emergency power cuts there tomorrow.
Also in #Odesa region today, a barge laden with 860 tons of wheat sank.
The #Romania owned vessel reported water began to flow into the engine room while it was in the port of Reni. Five Romanian sailors escaped.
UPDATE

UCI says the decision to readmit cyclists from #Russia and #Belarus was unanimous.
Still quiet this evening.
I wasn't going to include this but as there's not so much in today's thread, here you go.
#RussiaOnFire - only an apartment block where 3 flats went up in flames.
Day 1282 of Russia's all-out war is another very grim day with at least 15 civilians murdered by Putin's regime in clear attacks on residential buildings and areas of Kyiv.
Here's the Ukraine-Russia thread for Thursday 28 August 2025
A quiet start to Wednesday exploded into life - more importantly death - in the early hours in Kyiv.

For anyone who missed it yesterday, I am on a different time zone, explaining a later start. It's 07:10 in New York where I am for a few days. So my apologies if you were looking for me earlier.
In the coming days I'll try to start the thread before I go to sleep here.
Good morning world! It's Day 1281, so it must be thread number 1281 (4205 since the start of the Crimea invasion)
Every day documenting the news, without gratuitous gore, and the war crimes as Russia continues its unprovoked all-out war against a sovereign neighbour.
If you missed anything on Tuesday, it's simple to catch up. Just click this link for the start of yesterday's thread and scroll down to where you last read and then continue reading through to the end.
But remember to come back here!
Welcome to Thursday's thread with all the important news on Russia's illegal war in Ukraine.
It's Day 1275 - the day Putin openly mocks Trump.
After China + India upped oil purchases, the indicted war criminal ordered his army to bomb a US company in🇺🇦
Let's begin:
Ukraine is recovering from the predicted massive overnight attack.
Russia launched more than 600 missiles and drones.
The mayhem started in the last third of yesterday's exhausting thread. If you missed it, click and scroll here:
It's Day 1274 of Ukraine's incredible defence of its people, land, culture + shielding many NATO states, next on Putin's hit-list from his long stated dream to reunite the USSR
Somehow Trump & his cults (I nearly misspelled that) seem intent on helping Putin.
Here's the daily🧵
Tuesday was another 50+ post thread, packed full of some more untold insights into Ukraine news and life, including the resurgence of Covid and a language 'foul' on the football field.
But politics and Russian atrocities are omnipresent.
Here's your link
Let me start with an unwanted shock for residents in Poltava, who were warned of a radiation threat this morning, I imagine sparking all sorts of horrific thoughts.
Thankfully, the governor says it was human error, Myrhorod should've had an air alert, not the radiation warning.
Zelenskyy's forced to be careful, but Ukraine's always been ready for the unconditional ceasefire Trump first demanded 5 months ago. So no surprise he's travelling to Washington on Monday
It's Alaska Day, or a couple of half-baked Alaskas meeting later as Russia hopes to carve up Ukraine, with Trump's approval.
That's much later on Day 1269 of Putin's war.
As I start this thread at around 02:30 GMT, 05:30 Ukraine, there is a big attack on Russia.
Let the🧵begin
In a rush to get to sleep, so let me waste no further time in giving the link to yesterday's thread.
