Day 480 of the war. #Russia defending stubbornly with reinforced lines in the areas of #Ukraine they stole.
But I think the real push, with most forces, is yet to come. Here's another daily thread. There's been one every day, but I do need support pls! ko-fi.com/twmcltd
Yesterday's thread can be found on the link below, click and scroll if you missed anything.
Loads of nice photos and videos in Saturday's thread and how there seems to have been a #Russia-#Africa plot to deny missile strikes, but Russia's MoD messed up!
Who doesn't like a bit of alliteration? And here are some sweet Sunday sounds to start your day.
Less than 20km north of #Henichesk in #Kherson region there was a big explosion, then many, many more in the village of #Rykove as #Russia's weapon/ammo store there went up in smoke!
I think it's particularly noticeable how many strikes #Ukraine is making in the Occupiers' rear in #Zaporizhzhia and #Kherson. Stopping the supply lines from #Crimea helps in the multi-stage offensive to liberate territory, which the UK update today shows is extremely difficult:
Each day #Ukraine releases its daily estimate of #Russia's losses. Quite often we see numbers a little lower on Sundays and Mondays, which I think is probably a "clerical delay", collating + reporting
Today most categories are down, but #Russia's soldiers killed is above average
You'll also notice in the last tweet confirmation of #Russia losing 2 helicopters, the second one I reported late yesterday evening.
Also 12 drones were hit, five of them attack types (4 Shahed and one Lancet).
1/2 Happy Father's Day to all Dads celebrating today in many countries of the world.
It's Father's Day in #Ukraine, but spare a thought this morning for all those children who've lost a parent in this monstrous and illegal war, started by one old man in a bunker. #SlavaUkraini
2/2 A poignant video by #Ukraine's Border Guard for Father's Day:
"Hi Dad. How are you"
"Fine son, & you?"
"All good, I graduated school, pity you missed it"
"Sorry son, circumstances"
"I understand, Mum + I miss you. Take care. I'm proud of you. We're waiting for you at home❤️"
Here's a photo said to be from the latest hit on #Tokmak yesterday.
Local officials have banned restaurants/clubs in #Odesa from operating after 10pm.
It's one of the difficult decisions to make in a war. There was a lot of anger at videos of parties in the southern resort while other cities were being bombed.
But it will be unpopular in #Odessa
2/3 As well as allegedly helping a judge escape in 2020, earlier this year a @pravda_eng invesigation found Smirnov's unemployed brother had miraculously bought expensive land in L'viv; equally strange at just 20% of market price
3/3 Now the Dep Head of President's Office has been linked with Roman Ignatov.
Mr Ignatov has just been made Chairman of the "High Qualification Commission of Judges"
The problem is he's accused of having 🇷🇺passport and not being open with 🇺🇦security:
Although #Ukraine needs stability and shouldn't waste energy on internal issues, there are too many question marks over senior staff in Zelenskyy's office.
Amid new allegations of "raiding" too, there needs to be unequivocal proof or a clearout
This photo is said to be from the village of #Rozdolne in the occupied part of #Kherson region.
Another environmental disaster following the blasting of the #KakhovkaDam.
No timestamp, but I've checked with 3 image search engines and it does seem to be new.
#Estonia's Intelligence says #Ukraine has lost under 10% of foreign military equipment donated in the war.
Their Head also confirms the main counter offensive has not started yet - #Ukraine is still in the "shaping" period and the full assault may not happen this week.
Reuters confirms bodies have been found inside flooded houses on the occupied left bank of the River Dnipro in #Kherson region.
Officially #Russia's appointed officials admit only 25 deaths, while independent reports say "hundreds"
On Father's Day, in #Sumy region shelling by #Russia today has killed a police officer and his young son.
Senior police lieutenant Roman Babenko, and his 4-year-old boy died when their car was hit.
#Ukraine claims it shot down another Ka-52 helicopter today.
Recently #Russia moved around 20 extra of these attack models to Ukraine.
There is no independent verification of the latest take-down, which would be the 5th in just over 2 days
The evidence is based on testimony from a psychologist who says she has heard of many other such acts of barbarism from colleagues.
Ms Yatsenko says one of the men returned to the front.
Here is the full speech from President Zelenskyy tonight with English subtitles. The first 2'33" is thank yous to military - you may find the last couple of minutes more interesting.
#Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) has arrested 15 police officers in the city of #Dnipro.
The allegedly corrupt law enforcers were involved in drugs policing.
Still much work to be done, but Ukraine is ridding itself of corruption.
⚡️Breaking⚡️
In #Crimea reports of explosions and shooting in the north of the occupied region.
Several loud explosions happened in #Krasnoperekopsk according to locals, then helicopters last night. Later, helicopters were spotted and machine gun fire was heard.
Explosions also reported in the free part of #Kherson region again tonight.
Fans of the @BKCyclones made a huge flag of #Ukraine, unfurled before their baseball match and the club also played the national anhem & "Oi u luzi chervona kalyna"

Welcome to the daily war thread for Tuesday 20 June 2023.
Can you believe it's Day 482 of #Russia's full invasion?
Each day a new 🧵 with all the important news in one place, updated live.
Already a busy day for #Ukraine's air defenders as #Russia launched drone attacks..
First a quick reminder that the link below is the start of yesterday's thread in case you wish to scroll through at your leisure to catch up on what you missed.
Also don't forget DMs open for tip-offs and stories % donations of coffee welcome too, see bio
First let's look at why there are much lower excess death increases in say, Bulgaria and Romania than other nations.
Simple fact is these two countries have the worst life expectancy/most deaths in the EU, the fewest old people. Therefore any increase is likely to be lower.
3/ It should be pointed out excess deaths are falling significantly in early 2023.
There are many good graphs and explainers in this report. 100% proof in there that vaccinated people are NOT dying more than unvaxed.
Day 466 of the daily thread covering the #UkraineRussianWar begins here.
All the news and analysis, throughout the day and night - looks like little sleep again tonight as it's believed #Russia has fired cruise missiles, currently an hour away from hitting #Ukraine.
Also hearing now that cruise-missile laden ships are in the launch zone in the Black Sea. This is not uncommon, but #Russia's current tactic of a mixed missile attack increases the likelihood of ships being involved.
Estimated time of arrival of rockets: 03:10 Kyiv time.
Good morning, welcome to Daily Thread number 465 covering #Ukraine's heroic defence against #Russia's illegal aggression.
I've been here from (before) the start of war, reporting on (sometimes from) a country I've loved, worked + lectured in many, many times.
Overnight was quiet
Before we get stuck in to today's news, a gentle reminder these threads are basically an unpaid full time job - actually more than that as you get days off with a job! Coffee donations welcome (link in Bio)
A few drones buzzed #Ukraine yesterday evening but air raids did not last long and no damage was reported.
The drone/cruise missile numbers on #Russia's daily losses are high as they include Friday morning's attacks.
Artillery, special equipment & fuel tanks way above average
