Dude. NO. That is, in a word, asinine. Seriously, don't jump into a discussion with zero facts. Let me school you.
Your "well, actually" is one of the most pervasive, and ludicrous, myths to come out of post-Reconstruction America.
In 1860, 80 percent of our GNP was tied to slavery. The $ value of the enslaved worth more than all other U.S. commodities, combined.
2/3 of the wealthiest Americans lived in slaveholding South. SC fired the first shot of Civil War bc 81% of its wealth was tied 2 slavery
Enslavers studied labor and production and the way violence could increase production of cotton year over year.
The cotton produced by forced black labor drove global economy & *literally* created the wealth for our nation, which began deeply in debt.
The cotton produced by forced black labor is what fueled the industrial revolution in the textile-producing North.
Entire systems of banking were set up to manage the profits & wealth produced by the enslaved, & to allow whites to borrow to purchase them
How the hell can any thinking person think we fought the deadliest war in our history 2 preserve an institution tht somehow was UNPROFITABLE
Racism justified the use of stolen labor and lives for profit, not the other way around. I mean, this is common sense.
Please read "The Half That's Never Been Told" or "The Empire of Cotton" and stay in your lane next time if you actually don't know.
