I need to ruminate on this #Arrow BLM bullshit, because I've been heated about it all day.
I haven't watched every #BLM episodee of television, but from what I've seen, only one drama has gotten it right. That show was #QueenSugar.
The reason they got it right is because the show was created by black people with a diverse and talented writers and actors.
Because of this, they were able to capture the nuances of BLM, the indignity, the trauma, the rage, the heartbreak.
These are aspects all missing from the heavy-handed attempts by #ChicagoPD and #LawAndOrderSVU. White writers can't capture the horrors.
#Arrow shouldn't even try. I haven't watched or tweet about the show since the end of season 4 for many reasons...
1. The writing had been atrocious since season 3. 2. Their treatment of women and people of color got exceedingly worse.
3. After #TheFlash crossovers, I couldn't ignore how god awful the acting, save for David Ramsey and Katie Cassidy, was.
4. Stephen Amell, #Arrow's star, famously and racistly tweeted his outrage at how people were treating TEXAS after Ahmed Mohamed's arrest.
This is the actor who's supposed to be believably moved by police brutality against POCs? The guy who put the treatment a state over a kid?
Who when he was called out doubled-downed instead of opening his eyes? He can barely convince me that Oliver is a human person.
Now about Oliver: the Green Arrow is a rich. white. vigilante. murderer. Give him a badge, and he's not the good guy.
Superheroes work in the realm of escapism and fantasy, but when you start applying logic and reality, they are mentally ill killers.
So the Green Arrow, who was once suspected of killing over 12 people in year one wants to suddenly have feels about murdered black people?
Ava DuVernay could barely write that episode and Stephen Amell couldn't convincingly play he. He and #Arrow don't have the damn range.
#Arrow doesn't have black writers. And @mguggenheim wants to bus in a temporary one? It's the TV equivalent to "I have a black friend."
If #Arrow truly wants to make a statement or be an ally, hire black writers because they make your show better.
Writing your women just as completely and strongly as your men. Because you NEVER HAVE.
Give Diggle the storyline he deserves instead of sidelining him with scrap arcs and a dorky helmet.
Hire a black women with a true part in the show THAT YOU DON'T SHOOT IN THE HEAD.
But stay as far away from a BLM storyline as humanely possible, because you'll never hit the mark.

Fin.
