"The NPC meme is a response to something real.

"We are all NPCs (to one degree or another) because we are all in bondage."

The first step to freedom is to realize that one is in shackles.

This is why the NPC meme is so subversive, and must be contained.

In "A Contribution to the Critique of Political Economy" (1859), Karl Marx wrote:

"It is not the consciousness of men that determines their existence, but their social existence that determines their consciousness."

Marx, the original NEET, also dreamed the NPC meme into being.
The theory of historical materialism, which posits that economic base determines superstructure, led millions to believe that revolution would liberate them from capitalist oppression, and transform them from NPCs into PCs.

They were wrong, of course. The meme was just a dream.
Foucault, Derrida, Butler and other post-structuralists offer their own theory of the NPC: That "the subject" is an illusory social construct, produced by discourse or power, and thus lacks true agency of its own.

Social constructionism is an attempt to kill off the PC for good.
Classical & Cultural Marxism.
Social Constructionism.
Postmodernism.
Social Justice.

All reject innate human nature, more or less.

If nurture is all, individual will is denied and is outsourced to the external world.

The NPC meme is the apotheosis of progressive blank slatism.
Globalism can only "run" by suppressing individual and group differences.

Hence, it must hack the operating system of individuals, groups and entire nations, and install the malware of blank slatism.

In so doing, it turns PCs into NPCs in the name of "equality" and "inclusion."
If the malware of blank slatism is widely accepted by the masses, then social engineering becomes possible on a truly global scale.

Globalism becomes a kind of game that is programmed and developed by our technocratic elites, one in which the "players" are always getting played.
May 1968 Graffiti:

"Desiring reality is great! Realizing your desires is even better!"

"I take my desires for reality because I believe in the reality of my desires."

1968 was indeed a revolutionary year for the West: It marked the birth of what we now call "woke capitalism."
"The family would be the last bastion of primitive communism in liberal society.

"The sexual revolution was to destroy these intermediary communities, the last to separate the individual from the market.

"The destruction continues to this day." – The Elementary Particles (1998)
The deal the post-1968 left made with oligarchs of the West: Free sex in exchange for free trade.

If neoliberalism is radical mobility of capital and labor, sexual liberation is radical mobility of bodies and desire. Convergence was inevitable.

All that is solid melts into air.
Occupy Wall Street represented the triumph of multicultural neoliberalism.

After the financial crisis of 2007-2008, America was ready for revolution.

Yet a unified message of economic justice was fractured by diverse calls for "social justice," and the movement never recovered.
The abandonment of the working class by the neoliberal left had been under way for decades when Bernie Sanders launched his 2016 presidential campaign.

Left-wing populism, however, proved no match for "woke capitalism." When he was shut down by #BLM in Seattle, it was game over.
