Read a long write-up condemning Gov for cancelling ECRL;
Premise is to spend an additional RM27B and complete the RM46B Gombak to KB Link.
Cancelling it...he presumes will cost RM20B in compensation.

Sounds logical?
Ok..some basic stuff.
ECRL is NOT a high speed rail~it hv a max design speed of 160km/hr..and actual average speed wud probably be about the same(or slightly) better than the West Coast Rail.
The railway is a SINGLE track Standard Gauge Railway...thus not compatible with existing
Without a link between Gombak to Port Klang the 25m tons land bridge (Kuantan Port to PT Klang vice versa) cargo becomes a big fat ZERO ie no more OBOR lah.
Thus...the RM9B Gombak to Port Klang Link becomes a necessity.

Add RM9B to the RM46B=RM55B.

Before diving into a wee bit of the history, it is worth doing a technology recap... Maglev (magnetic levitation) in its most basic form is as simple as it sounds: when you hold two magnets of equivalent polarity against each other, they repel.
When you line up a load of magnets as a track, you end up with an arrangement that resembles an unwound motor, hence the technology that moves maglev trains about being referred to as the "linear motor".

So, following my earlier tweets about HSR & ECRL, a question that every rail industry worker would have heard at some point - why does KTMB use meter gauge, and can we convert to standard gauge?
As I touched before, the meter track gauge we're using is a relic of our colonial past.

I use the term "meter track gauge"above as there are other gauges referring to the dimensional limits of the physical load a train can carry, called the loading gauge & structure gauge
So when I use the term gauge prefixed with something other than those two, take it to mean the distance between the inner faces of the running rails

Some common track gauges

Meter gauge = 1,000mm
Cape gauge = 1,067mm
Standard gauge = 1,435mm
Broad gauge = 1,676mm

Why it is being prioritised over other corridors such as those in the north or south west? Does it follow the best route? Is it necessary at all?

This little thread should help explain things.
Firstly, Britain's railways are getting busier... Our network is the most densely trafficked in Europe, even before you consider freight.

On key routes, existing lines are already reaching capacity.
Before discussing how to alleviate pressure on the network, let's consider the major areas of population and economic output.

These "hubs" are the clusters of cities that are, for example, connected by less than an hour's travel.
