I'm moderately sympathetic to the gun control movement, but I find their political strategy lacking and their proponents annoying. 1/
Complaining about how mass shootings never translate into action is a complete waste of time. You're right! Now move on and work hard. 2/
Complaining about how the vast majority supports gun control but can't get action is also dumb. You're right! Now move on and work hard. 3/
In fact, take a few lessons from the NRA, which isn't a conspiracy, it's a fabulously effective and smart interst group. 4/
You need to get intensity on your side. Gun rights supporters are often single issue voters, and have no problems talking their cause. 5/
Gun control types *love* to talk to each other, but in my experience find talking to their neighbor awkward or inappropriate. 6/
Guess what: that's the hard work. Spending $$, talking one on one, changing minds, creating single-issue voters. There's no secret. 7/
Until you accept the NRA is millions of intense voters who put their money/mouth shamelessly to their cause you're screwed. 8/
You need to copy that. Waiting for the Big Event that wakes up the latent masses who support gun control in worthless. It ain't coming. 9/
What you should do is take an event like this and use it as an excuse to talk to neighbors. 10/
Turn one gun control poll respondent into a gun control issue voter. Spend $50. Find persuadable people to talk to. 11/
But for goodness sake, stop complainig with people you agree with about how dumb everyone else is for not seeing the light. 12/
There's no conspiracy. You're being outworked by people not embarrassed by their position and unafraid of uncomfortable convos. 13/
Politics is a hard slog. Start slogging. 14/14
