This morning I found 30 years old edition of monthly magzine 'Kalyan' in my grandfather's almirah featuring major 'Shakti Peeths' of India.
To start with, Kashmir has 6 shakti-peeths: The very famous Vaishno Devi, Rajrajeshwari Shreemaharani, Chakreshwari Shreesarika -
Shree Jwalaji, Kulwagishwari & Kshirbhawani Yogmaya. Most of them are around Srinagar.
The state of Assam has many Shakti-peeths but the major one is Kamakhya Paavan Shakti-peeth situated on the banks of river Bhramaputra.
Next is Maharashtra which has many Shakti peeths out of which 4 are major- Tuljapur, Matapur, Kolhapur & Saptshrungi.
Mumbai, the capital of Maharastra has 3 shakti-peeths: Mumbadevi, Kalbadevi & Mahalaxmi. The city has been named only after Maa Mumba.
Pune has famous Parvatipeeth where Peshwas used to worship. According to local people, there was a tunnel from Parvatipeeth to Shanivarwada.
In addition to this, in Pratapgarh (Pune) there is a temple of Bhagwati Bhawani where Chatrapati Shivaji used to worship. #JaiBhawani
My state Rajasthan too has a rich culture of worshiping Maa Durga in many forms. The major Shakti-peeths here are Chittor ki Kalika -
Tripura Mandir in Banswara, Chamunda Mata, Kailadevi in Karauli, Chaturbhuji Devi in Shekhawati & Jeenmata.
Next in the list is Gujarat which has 9 major Shakti-peeths. Since ages, women hold an important role in Gujarati culture.
Read this to know the relevance of #Garba in Gujarati community.
