Today’s highly critical Home Affairs Committee @CommonsHomeAffs report on insufficient plan for post-Brexit customs:

The long and short of it is this:
Are customs arrangements going to change in March 2019? Govt thinks it can negotiate no/v small change...
..at least for a transition - if not, then agencies, hauliers, exporters, importers need to know and plan for this change about now or chaos
Unless Govt plans with no deal/transition simply not to have customs checks cos can’t be enforced - kind of one way semi permeable cell wall
Meanwhile this: plan to lead to existing traffic chaos pre-Brexit /Operation Stack with a Disneyland size lorry park has had to be canned
But DfT/ Grayling says a new M20 lorry park plan will now not even go for planning until 2019...
So they will develop interim solution...
The interim plan for Brexit Operation Stack appears to be to park the lorries in the middle of the M20 - fast lane or central reservation?

Interesting - maybe too late. Labour MPs astonished No 10 failed to consult with unions too. Also one told her directly that her talking up of No Deal as a viable option was making things difficult. Ie they need her to say publicly that No Deal is a disastrous non option...tricky
Labour sources briefing against: “We will look at any proposal that is put forward to improve T May’s bad deal.

“However, amendment would mean MPs supporting deal based on promises that are not legally binding. also doesn’t guarantee UK won’t fall behind on important rights”
“Protection of rights is also one element of this deal. The government has still refused to listen to Labour’s demands for a permanent customs union and a strong single market deal.” Says Labour source...

Another ticking No Deal time bomb -Lords Grand committee supposed to take 4 hours to deal with 10 Brexit Statutory instruments - Got through just 3 on stem cells, embryology etc, all referred up to full House of Lords.

Hundreds more required to be passed to correct statute book
Some Govt sources suggesting there is a filibustering game going on here - Lords strenuously deny - todays committee included Lord Winston, Warner, Foulkes, Adonis etc, say it is scrutiny legislated for in Withdrawal Bill.

In any event, cant see how they get through all the SIs

Brexit seems to be the solution to all our economic woes (short thread)

E.g., Hannan thinks that Brexit will be great because house prices will crash by 1/3. That will be great for first-time buyers, right?
Problem is last time house prices crashed (2008) home ownership in younger people did not increase. It decreased by quite a bit as can be seen in this graph. 2/
That's because housing prices are connected to lots of other things in the economy, such as job prospects, lending criteria. It's not that people in 2008 were like "Hey look, all those houses around us have become cheaper. Now we can finally buy!" 3/

Perhaps it’s a disgrace that we only make enough insulin in the U.K. for 1-2000 patients, when 400,000 patients need it every year. Is it a disgrace we are having to stockpile medicine like this? channel4.com/news/factcheck…

JRM says "If you are in negotiation for a free trade agreement, you can maintain your existing standards for 10-years under WTO rules. So we have 10 years from the point at which we leave the EU to negotiate a FTA which would mean we could carry on with our zero tariffs."

IANAL but I think JRM is labouring under a misapprehension

It seems he's referring to this "understanding" in an Ad Art to GATT Article XXIV, para 5.

It says that the "reasonable length of time" from Article XXIV should not normally exceed 10 yrs.
