Let's be clear: you don't just argue. You insult people. Tossing “snowflake” at someone’s head might work for you when nobody’s listening, but nah, you don’t get to walk away from this argument this easily today.
Let’s walk this back: you specifically sought me out on Twitter after watching a YouTube video to antagonize – because, you know, the evil mainstream games media just doesn’t understand that common man (looking at your posting history, it appears to be quite the obsession).
Your argument is that because, as a father, me thinking it’s positive that Nintendo builds features into its games that remove some of the frustration for younger players (like my youngest son), I am complicit in “ruining” games.
Because I don’t decry the existence of an optional amiibo heart “cheat”, I’m contributing to the creation of baby games so common in the “West.”
You know, because Japan’s still been supplying you with the HARDCORE super-difficult stuff of your dreams – unlike those western devils behind pushover games like Cuphead or Slime-San.
The argument is that I am just not bringing up my kids right lest I challenge them with games that don’t provide ample save spots or require them to learn by repetition. Your point is: what John likes, everyone must like. Not elitism at all. Something something mainstream media.
When John has kids, they’re gonna be playing games with spike-covered joysticks encrusted with frozen poison, slogging their way to enjoyment all heroically Ivan-Drago-like while the "libtards" drink mulled wine and miss out on what made games fun in the first place:
difficulty, difficulty, difficulty! We get it. You play games for the challenge, because you’re the last remaining manly man. If someone plays a game for the story, for atmosphere, for relaxation, escapism, or for -- ick, gasp, gag -- FUN, we’re just… goodness. Such snowflakes.
Clearly, all is lost if a game like Mario Odyssey is playable by everyone. Accessibility is a curse word. The wall must be built tall! Don’t come in here unless you can stand the heat!
A feature that avoids frustration and removes some of the bite for someone who doesn’t follow the John Alexander Principle is leading to the destruction of all that is sacred. We’ll never get a Ghouls ‘n Ghosts again, because, you know, a 10-year-old can swipe an amiibo...
...to load up on hearts in Mario. Let’s ignore the fact that indies have been supplying a steady stream of tough-as-nails platformers and shooters. Let’s ignore the recent trend of learn-by-death Souls-likes. The gall of the purveyors of family entertainment, Nintendo, and...
...this “mainstream-media” dad; to be okay with a game concept that lets a whole family into the Mushroom Kingdom. Let’s ignore that Odyssey ramps from fun to serious challenge and that we think that’s great (have YOU finished the Dark/er Side levels?) – the...
...Princess Peach amiibo is ushering in the whimpification of an entire generation. Our fathers’ fathers fought at the Russian front. We’re getting free hearts? In video games!?
And yes, @1MayoRice1 -- your option to make modern games more difficult is this: turn up the difficulty setting. Or seek out one of the many difficult games that still hit the market. Or don't swipe a damn Princess amiibo.
