1. There's a paradox about convenience - we lust for more of it, but once we get some the sense of it fades away as our expectations change. It's like we chase our own tails.
2. Even knowing this doesn't seem to change it. It's likely a cognitive bias. We can't help ourselves from overlooking how much (many of us) already have.
3. The amazing history of timesaving devices and technology the average American owns is staggering. And yet all of that progress goes entirely unnoticed on a daily basis - we're stressed, time poor and yet still believe the next convenience will change everything.
4. When I hear myself or someone else say "I don't have time" I do the math in my head: Americans spend ~4.3 HOURS watching TV/media a day. We have time, we're just confused perhaps on how to use it.
5. The trap is the externalization of problem-solving power. It's easier to believe/hope that BUYING something will make us into who we want to be, rather than working the problem internally: habits, goals, emotions & self-awareness.
6. In the long run an obsessive quest for convenience is inconvenient - it's a poor way to go about both understanding what you really want in life and learning how to get it.
