1. The prevalence of multi-tweet threads is so backward from a tech or design perspective since we evolved plenty of great ways to write and publish longer units of thinking. It's so common now we accept it but in many (but not all) ways it's backwards. Much like SMS.
2. The primary reason we accept it is a kind of short-term convenience. It FEELS convenient, since we're already here, to just keep reading another chunk while a link to better writing would feel so terribly heavy with commitment. Convenience often leads to shallowness.
3. SMS is a similiar example - it is very convenient for quick notes and to not interupt people. But when you have a long, complex exchange over SMS, usually it'd be much faster and more rewarding to use voice - voice has more data! (tone, inflection, easier to get sarcasm, etc.)
4. The big observation is "the cliff": the moment where one media gives you diminishing returns vs. shifting to a different and more useful media for the purpose at hand. We resist it for convenience reasons, but noticing the cliff and switching is media wise. /end
