Generally there are no issues with politicians or political parties asking for their follower's to register and/or in requesting their data. Apps play a great role in leaders keeping in touch with their constituents, their need, asking them to vote etc. that said #NaMoApp
It's important not to mislead, state the purpose of data collection clearly, have clear T&C and PP #NaMoApp
Also there are no issues with sharing data with third parties for analysis or BI or campaigning etc ( political parties usually don't have that kind of talent in-house) as long as your T&C, PP states it clearly so users know it. #NaMoApp
And political party has a well defined contract with the third party to make sure the data is safe, private and secure. And it's not misused by the third party. #NaMoApp
#NaMoApp fails in couple of places
1. The play store page states "Official App of Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi." It's misleading, it's not an app owned or managed by GoI or PMO. It's by a politician/party. This has to be made clear.
2. The privacy policy (last snapshot by archivedotorg, Aug 2017) clearly states
Your personal information and contact details shall remain confidential and shall not be used for any purpose other than our communication with you.
The information shall not be provided to third parties in any manner whatsoever without your consent
and yet data was shared with third parties
3. And I see the latest privacy policy states almost everything is shared with third parties and "Consent" is removed from the PP.
Not sure when it got changed. I am not sure if it was communicated to users and they were given a chance to delete/disagree . If you are an user of #NamoApp please participate
Screenshot of the PP is attached and this is the PP App links narendramodi.in/privacy-policy
4. It's also a good policy to state what the app permissions like camera, microphone and contacts etc are used for
5. Security of the App has not been great archive.fo/NuhVI#selectio… and we are not sure how much data was leaked
So PP was changed recently

After NaMo App exposé, privacy policy on Narendra Modi’s website makes a quiet U-turn

altnews.in/after-namo-app…
This just proves that they shared data. And obviously changed the Privacy policy without notifying users

This looks like a decent use case but why didn't you notify the users about privacy policy update and removing "consent" for third party sharing

Even facebook sends an email when they update privacy policy.
Also it would be great to state how the party is going to use contacts, device info etc
