Police don’t murder black people because they mistake what’s in their hands for a gun. That headline is trash. Police carry guns for a living. They see guns every day. They know exactly what they look like. Police fatally shoot black people BECAUSE THEY GET AWAY WITH IT. Period.
Gun control needs to start with police because they cannot tell what is and what is not a gun in broad daylight. If you are “trained” to have a gun and you can’t recognize one then they should take your gun first. That’s one of many arguments against anyone else having them.
& HERE’S A FRIENDLY REMINDER THAT YES, WHEN YOU RESEARCH THE HISTORY OF POLICING IN THIS COUNTRY IT IS BOUND IN RACE, BUT THIS IS ABOUT POLICE TRAINING ACROSS THE BOARD— WHITE, BLACK, HISPANIC, WHATEVER, POLICE ARE CLEARLY NOT TRAINED FOR THEIR OCCUPATION MY G!!
I see this “they kill more whites than blacks” nonsense. General population differences of black/white in America show the discrepancies. By population it’s actually Native Americans killed most by cops disproportionately. Also, are you like, okay with cops killing white people?
Note on training: In this country you have to have more training hours in cosmetology than to become a police officer. In some other countries the training is the same as getting a two year college degree. We have abundant tangible evidence that the training is too lax.
And we have centuries of evidence as to how the police force formed and maintained the agenda of terrorizing my community and other communities/peoples of color. It’s on the books. Do your homework. If you’re anti-truth then you’re anti-change.

Bottom line: Training/hiring has to change. Policing has to hit a reset button. Police should be held to their “expertise” which means they should not be pardoned to react like an untrained civilian might. If you carry a gun as apart job, a non-gun should not scare you. Period.
Lastly, my block button is sturdy. I said what I said.
P.S. The most trained NYPD officers have a 18% hit rate, which means they only hit their target 18% of the time. So that says it all about training, but also how nonsensical it is to give teachers guns AND the fact that American civilians have 300 million guns on the loose.
