all these jokes mad funny but please know my nigga @chancetherapper is not no fucking trump supporter. his character speak for itself in the work we do. he is however student of Kanye.

sometimes our initial reaction is to protect people we admire & i empathize with that emotion.
regardless Ye is still a Black man from the southside of Chicago & Black men I know on southside of Chicago have inherited problematic views that take tons of consciousness raising to unlearn or acknowledge. wealth doesn’t automatically undo that. it very well exacerbates them..
im not making excuses. ye is tweakin & words are extremely detrimental. our love for Black people cannot totally diminish just because they rise out of poverty. in fact we must love them harder as to not allow the project of white supremacy to do exactly what it is doing.
maybe I’m naive but to me Ye is not aligned with someone like Cadence Brown who knows how to use her platform intentionally to articulate racist rhetoric.

yes Ye ain’t not revolutionary either & ain’t never been. but he is Black. self absorbed & egotistical but southside Black
we need to hold people we care about accountable when they fuck up. y’all can make jokes about Ye & cancel him. for Folks close to him they gonna call him & question him & let him know he still loved if the world don’t. love isn’t casting aside, its holding accountable.
I care about my brother & the pressure that goes into always having to be on point or right or whose Blackness has to be one way in order to be acceptable for the culture is DEEP.

there is privilege in all of that but contrary to belief it is tough on ones spirit to maintain.
& believe as an organizer I called my nigga immediately to tell him he tweakin lmao.

& that defending Ye out of love is still erasing the political detriment of ye even semi endorsing a white supremacist. but I can empathize with his heart & logic & still COMPLETELY DISAGREE
my brother is my brother but please note this is not defense of any goofy shit any black men have said today lol. don’t coddle black men 2018.
however i do feel it necessary to remind ppl celebrities are ppl. which means they are problematic, which means they fuck up. which means don’t be tricked by the allure. which means critique them but don’t allow urself to somehow believe that money makes them less human.
after reflection i want to clarify

i love ye as a black person. BC of that i can interpret the humanity in his actions but still condemn them.

same way black police officers in my family spew racist rhetoric. I yearn for them but also am atomically against what they stand for
ye endorsing trump offers different power dynamics of betrayal & influence. yes. so yes fuck him & he’s doing harm.

in relation to chano. i didn’t want to be silent & pretend as if his tweet wasn’t also contextually detrimental. & bc chance is also my brother..
& his reasons I believe, were not in support of ye’s endorsement of trump but was a support of ye. which is in fact normal for someone to want to protect someone they care about. ye ain’t just no celebrity to chano same way chano ain’t no celebrity to me. imma call him in not out
now I will always have my mans back but chance doesn’t/didn’t need me to come to his defense. he grown like im grown & should be held accountable like organizers are held accountable. with great power comes great responsibility.
also after talkin to @_CharlesPreston he highlights these conversations too often get derailed. we should be centering the politics, not celebrities. regardless of who. organizing is going to happen. ppl can get on board or be held accountable when their actions don’t align.
to some chance is just a celeb & that’s fine. but to someone I’ve known for a decade his liberation is tied to mine. & know his heart isn’t to dismiss the people. but like I know for myself there is so much room for him to do better.
