The number of science podcasts had grown exponentially since 2010.
Most release just a few episodes before going dormant. But a few endure for >300.
I sometimes day dream about having my own podcast. This survey is a big, statistical, wet blanket.
We knew this. Most science podcasts don't bring in any money.
But when they do make money, here is how. Mostly donations, then merchandise. Advertising is last.
Survey looked at more than 800 podcasts. Here they are by topic.
Myself, I listen to genetics podcasts. Current regular listen list: @mendelspod podcast and the @insitome podcast with @spwells and @razibkhan

My podcasts include some by journalists, and others by experts. The survey shows the vast majority of science podcasts are by scientists.
The guy who did the podcast survey is Louis McKenzie, he's a biophysicist. Here he is plotting podcast survival times like they were mice with cancer.
