This study explored the effect of three different modes of resistance training on appetite hormones, cardiometabolic and anthropometric measures in males with obesity.
- 44 males with obesity were randomized to traditional resistance training (TRT, n = 11), circuit resistance training (CRT, n = 11), interval resistance training (IRT, n = 11) or control (C, n = 11) groups.
- All resistance training groups received 50 min of supervised training per session, three days per week, for 12 weeks.

Here, the authors aimed to examine whether psychosocial factors measured at trial baseline and earlier in life were associated with intervention participation, and with healthy lifestyle and lifestyle changes in Finnish individuals aged 60–77 years at risk for cognitive decline.
- Several psychosocial factors were associated with participation in lifestyle intervention, while fewer of them contributed to lifestyle changes.
- Although the intervention was beneficial for lifestyle changes independent of psychosocial factors, those most in need of lifestyle improvement were less likely to be active.

This is a retrospective analysis of the data from CALERIE, that tries to characterize the contributions of the loss of energy-expending tissues and metabolic adaptations to the reduction in resting metabolic rate following weight loss.
- CALERIE, or Comprehensive Assessment of Long-term Effects of Reducing Intake of Energy, was a large-scale, randomized clinical trial in humans that involved a 25% reduction in energy intake over the course of a 2-year period.

This one suggests that consuming protein (8g) in close proximity (20 min) to consuming an energy dense ultra-processed food may slightly reduce caloric intake (by ~60 kcal).
- 60% of participants (30/50 participants) mounted a response to a high-protein preload with an acute decrease in intake of an HSFLP ultra-processed food, (vanilla ice cream).
- The intake after a high-protein (8g) preload, but not a low-protein preload (1.2g), was significantly, and negatively, correlated with habitual physical activity.

In the 2-year POUNDS lost weight-loss intervention trial, higher blood DNA methylation level at TXNIP was related to lower fasting glucose, HbA1c, and HOMA IR, and such individuals benefited more in improvements in glycemic control from an average-protein weight-loss diet.
- Higher regional DNA methylation level at TXNIP was associated with lower fasting glucose, HbA1c, and HOMA-IR among participants who were overweight or obese.
- Dietary protein intakes significantly modified the relation between regional DNA methylation level at TXNIP and changes in insulin and HOMA-IR at 6 months, independent of weight loss.

This systematic review and meta-analysis found that lifestyle modifications can be effective in the treatment of NAFLD with diet, exercise, or the combination of both being beneficial in its treatment.
- Exercise reduced weight compared to maintaining physical daily activities and education about a healthy lifestyle, HOMA-IR, oxygen consumption and intrahepatic lipids, assessed by H-MRS.
- The combination of diet and exercise reduced weight only compared to education about healthy lifestyle, HOMA-IR compared to the control group, intrahepatic lipids assessed by NAS score and liver enzymes.

This one suggests that the antithrombotic effect of weight loss is preserved in the postprandial state, irrespective of the weight loss intervention.
- "This is the first study exploring postprandial changes in FVII activation and thrombin formation as a potential harmful mechanism in individuals with obesity during weight loss."
- "The present study demonstrates a postprandial increase in FVIIa after high-fat meals during diet-induced weight loss and surgery-induced weight loss...

This systematic review and meta-analysis compares the efficacy and safety of low-carbohydrate diets and low-fat diets on glucose control, body weight loss, cardiovascular risk, and renal safety for type 2 diabetes management.
- "We found that treatment with LCDs achieved more effective improvements in glycemic and body weight control, as well as the concentrations of TG and HDL-C...
"...Our study proved that a more favourable effect of LCDs on HbA1c and TG levels could persist up to 1.5 years. The result of HDL-C concentration suggested a longer-term effectiveness of LCDs, which lasted for 2 years...

This systematic review and meta-analysis suggests that intermittent fasting is associated with successful weight loss and metabolic benefits among adults with obesity.
- IF as a weight loss approach was found to be mostly successful in the initial phase (ie, 1-6 months).
- Modified alternate-day fasting and the 5:2 diet were the only IF types that were associated with statistically significant weight loss of more than 5% in adults with overweight or obesity.

New Years Day health reminder.
1. Don’t go on a low calorie diet to lose weight, it only trains your metabolism to be more efficient.
2. Do change the type of food you eat... this can change your weight set point and lead to permanent and not temporary weight loss
3. Stop (or cut down) eating sugar and refined carbs like pasta, bread etc.
4. Throw away your vegetable oil - these are NOT health for you and cause inflammation and insulin resistance (and therefore obesity).
5. Cook with olive oil or a natural saturated fat like butter or ghee
6. Lower your glycaemic load (this is the total amount of carbs in your food) down to 100g then 80g then 60g but don’t go keto.
7. Do NOT avoid natural saturated fats (ie red meat and dairy products)... these do not cause obesity.
8. Fat does not make you fat - carbs do!
