A couple of months ago, I helped assemble a group of diverse experts with @ChrisMurphyCT and @JeffMerkley to discuss this proposal to give everyone the security of health care. 2/
The first thing I would say is that the Senators approached this with a bold vision they wanted to figure out how to make work for real people.
They were uncompromising on principle but invited criticism and loved jumping into the details. This is what it will take. 3/

The meat of the proposal is to use the good things the Medicare program could bring to any American who wanted it, without forcing people disrupt what works for them.

It begins to end the unnecessary distinctions between employer based and individual coverage. It improves Medicare by ending limits and reduces prescription drug costs.

It goes without saying— it would face opposition, it would require adjustment, there are details to work out.

Finally, this is one of a number of proposals (Sanders), (Schatz), (Kaine-Bennet) from Democrats in the Senate— all of which move to full coverage but have important distinctions.

These ideas need to be open to debate, development and a lot of listening to the public to build momentum prior to 2021.
