Hey guys. There are lots and lots of toxic magazines, abusive editors, shady journals, etc etc. Some of us have been actively trying to do something about this. But it is not safe or practical for anyone to keep or share a public "list" of problematic journals.
Not to mention, when you immediately ask "is there a list of places I should know about?" after someone mentions a problematic mag, you are totally asking someone else—usually women/femmes—to do the labor of paying attention to the community and researching publishers for you.
You are asking someone to give up information that they've gathered, often through their own encounters with abuse/harassment, without any sort of work on your part. & those of us who share this kind of info are often met with "oh he was nice to me" or "did that really happen?"
Inevitably when I warn someone about a problematic press or abuser in pobiz I am asked for proof. I am asked for specifics.

Inevitably when I share information publicly, I am met with harassment & threats.

So do your own homework. Follow vocal advocates. Listen to women/femmes.
It wasn't that long ago that a list of "shitty women" was pubilshed. Many of us were on that list because of speaking up about abuse in pobiz. I'm not here to rekindle that flame, but consider that this is just one layer of garbage that vocal women/femmes in pobiz put up with.
We are tired. And we see you, white dudes. You're always asking us for a list. When are you going to actually pay attention and do something about the writers and editors who consistently harm marginalized folks in our community? When will that be more important than your byline?
