INCOMING THREAD:

I'm just going to put this out there. Because I want to be very clear. And you can ask me questions, and I will answer some if I feel it's appropriate. BUT TO BE CLEAR:

1. I have emailed a publisher about an abuser they were publishing exactly once.
2. That publisher was @OSUtheJOURNAL. They have since disclosed my name and emails and those of another woman to the abuser.
3. THIS IS NOT OKAY. This is why victims don't come forward. This is why women/nbs don't speak up. This is why whisper networks are WHISPERED.
4. Yes, editors as well as writers have come to me to ask for information about abusers and advice on how to handle it before. I have treated each of these situations individually, but I am usually happy to share info with editors to make our community safer.
5. OSU failed us.
6. I should clarify: As far as I know, editors at @OSUtheJOURNAL did not disclose our info to the abuser directly, but passed it to leadership who disclosed. I still am very uncomfortable with this as no public statement has been made.
7. Sorry I'm all over the place. I'm tired and I haven't had any coffee yet today.
8. Like I said, I have reached out to an editor re: an abuser exactly once. I reached out to @OSUtheJOURNAL because I felt that they had brushed off the concerns of the other woman who wrote them.
9. This is not something I regularly do. If an editor asks me for info? Yes, I will share, so long as it is information that I am able to share without outing a victim/denying a victim agency. But I have NEVER emailed a magazine to complain before. I don't know that I will again.
10. If you are an editor and have concerns about someone in the community and how to handle it, yes, please, reach out. I'm still here for you.
11. As an editor myself, I will never disclose your info to the public or the accused without your consent. Ever. Fuck that shit.
12. I can't say this enough: THIS IS WHY VICTIMS OF HARASSMENT AND ABUSE DON'T COME FORWARD. We are exposed. We are gaslit. We are treated like WE are the problem.
13. Male allies, step the fuck up. Reach out. I will share info that I can with you. Get mad. YOU SHOULD BE MAD.
14. That is all. I have shit to do. Imagine how much shit I could get done if I weren't constantly being harassed. What a world that would be.
