Key to Symbolic Violence and Hexis is
that the person benefiting is
- unaware they exist
- unaware they benefit from it
- unequipped to empathise with the (alien) lack of those who do not
A system of opressed jailers of their own oppression, And oppressors unaware the jail exist
So the first step to improve on that situation is in itself to raise awareness BUT ONLY THE OPRESSED ARE AWARE!
They get the burden of:
Suffering Opression;
Exerting their own opression;
Raising awareness;
Being accused of inventing it;
Solving the mess.

Symbolic Violence, Hexis and Cultural capital while independent can be combined AND be used to feed/increase each other!
A system created by people with similar levels of those can only be blind to the needs of the rest
You have a big enough Hexis and it opens door to many jobs where you can get a lot of cultural capital which open a lot of venues to wield correctly the traits adding to your Symbolic Violence
You can experiment yourself with the effects of artificially reducing a lot one of those 3 to see how people react to you

Culture is an investment with dividends in ways pretty similar to money and with pretty similar consequences, there is a barrier-of-entry price of BOTH to many things.
Except that the cultural price is *invisible* and you do not spend your culture. Is like people never asked you to pay things, only to see if you had enough money
and the question itself was tacit, never really said, but executed

a lot of what we are/know is unconscious: we infer a lot by other’s non-verbal communication and communicate a lot trough that, without thinking about this at all
We communicate to others “I believe I belong here”, "I believe I am good for this position”, ”I believe I am right about this matter without doubt” (or the inverse of those) a lot trough this unconscious & non verbal channel

With every small flinch, gaze, smile etc.
If you groom a child from the very beginning to know it belongs everywhere that person will never doubt it belongs somewhere, the question is just *not* asked.

’tis unlike confidence where you ask yourself the question and the answer is yes

A) We don't delegate and end up doing things we shouldn't be doing because "my direct report doesn't know enough". We don't realize that we're making them not know enough and adding us more work that we could...
3\ ... use for doing other things that we should be doing.

B) We're making it harder for our direct reports to talk to other people directly to get shit done, and in turn, make them always come to us to know who to go to.

1) There’s a lot of BS about @nntaleb’s Black Swan, antifragility & skin in da game. Let’s take the gloves off and get into trouble.
2) When the Swan flew out, it was immediately butchered by imbeciles not understanding that you can’t predict the unpredictable.

That is the point – and an IQ filter NNT himself proly did not expect.
3) In any complex domain – life! – the Blackest Swan is always skulking around the corner. You know it’s coming, but you don’t know what where when. You can't tame what you've never even conceived of.

Ok, @MichaelGLFlood , I finally have a chance to address some of the things in this Yardley article. I’ll try to take the numbered points in the article one at a time. Buckle up - this is a long thread.
1st point - Yardley makes the unsubstantiated claim that discussions about transwomen are dominating feminism. Are these conversations happening? Yes. Are they dominating the discussion? Hardly. Transwomen are almost entirely absent from the mainstream gender justice agenda.
Take a look at UN Women for instance – I haven’t seen them conduct, or support, any campaigns that center transwomen. Indeed, I’ve been hard pressed to find any large feminist organizations that actively center transwomen as part of their agendas.
