Damn it!
I am so very sorry to hear about Margot Kidder.
I was fortunate enough to spend a bit of time with Margot.
And she WAS Lois Lane. Or rather, what made Lois great was Margot.
Margot fought against injustice through her political and social activism.
I was already in awe of her, and that only grew as she pragmatically told me about standing up to things bigger and more powerful than herself.
But, for me, there were few things bigger than Margot. Superman is my favorite film, defined a lot of my childhood, & Margot Kidder and Christopher Reeve are almost certainly the reason I do what I do today.
(Though, I THINK it's a coincidence that I married a crime-reporter).
I said something along these lines to Margot - about how important it was to have someone like her standing up to a pipeline.
She joked about 'Crazy Lois Lane' not really being taken that seriously.
She was open about her bipolar, & a strong advocate for mental health awareness.
She was fiery, had a biting wit, and was certainly cynical, but it seemed to come from a place of kindness and genuine empathy.
She was incredibly gentle and generous with my children when she met them.
Most will be sharing pictures of Margot Kidder as Lois Lane. Instead, I thought I'd share this. #MargotKidder, handcuffed and smiling, being arrested at the White House for peacefully sitting against the potential environmental destruction of the Keystone pipeline.
They say you should never meet your heroes.
I am so glad I met Margot Kidder.
