**OFFICIAL STATEMENT**
Last year, when I decided to run for Congress, I did it for one reason: to make people’s lives better. The political environment in Washington, D.C., has become toxic due to rampant corruption, and the only way to ensure that our interests are... (1/13)
...represented is by electing candidates beholden to no one except the constituents they serve.
I’ve dedicated my life to fighting for justice for all, regardless of background, belief, or ability to pay. (2/13)
When I watched Jeff Sessions, a racist, become our Attorney General & rollback the little progress that our country had made in combating mass incarceration, I decided to step up to fight for the people who have been left behind by an increasingly unjust and corrupt system.(3/13)
To address these injustices and restore our democracy, it’s critical that we elect progressive candidates who walk the walk. In a run-off election, voters deserve to know the facts about the candidates they’re choosing between. (4/13)
To that end, it’s important to differentiate ourselves on the basis of issues, beliefs, and philosophies – this is integral to voters knowing how they'll be represented in Congress. (5/13)
Whom we accept large amounts of money from speaks to the values we will uphold, and the voters deserve to know how each candidate’s campaign has been funded. (6/13)
My run-off opponent’s top contributor is a Republican mega-donor who has previously donated over $35,000 to the likes of Rick Perry, Greg Abbott, Dan Patrick, and Michael McCaul. This donor (Kent Ferguson, CEO of HealthCare Facilities Development) has financial ties with...(7/13)
...the corporate hospital monopoly that my opponent represents, HCA, as he has made multi-million-dollar real estate deals with HCA, including 7 of the 10 hospitals in the region that my opponent is responsible for as division controller. (8/13)
HCA benefits from Republican policies like the tax cut, and it’s ardently opposed to Medicare-for-All, which would eat into HCA’s profit margin. Considering that my opponent’s top donor depends upon HCA’s continued success, I’m concerned about a conflict of interest... (9/13)
...and potential for corruption, as this donor stands to lose from the type of comprehensive healthcare reform that’s necessary to guarantee universal health care for all Americans. (10/13)
This is the same type of conflict of interest that arises when a campaign accepts corporate PAC money. Who would I be if I didn’t raise this concern? (11/13)
Look, run-offs are hard and intense, but in the end, the truth matters, especially when it’s uncomfortable. I’m incredibly grateful to those who have stood with me throughout this campaign. (12/13)
I’m confident that we can unite District 25 through progressive values, and I'd be honored to be your choice to lead the charge in November. (13/13)
