I've distilled my political beliefs as a moderate libertarian into 5 distinct points. Maybe more. This might turn into a 95 thesis thing. @brando171, this is for you buddy.
1) I believe every neighborhood or closest local approximation should be free to collectively own and maintain a Bradley Fighting Vehicle or equivalent, as part of their local militia.
2) I believe we should constitutionally maintain a 70 vote cloture in the Senate and states should return to selecting their Senator. Yes, I would prefer nothing that isn't absolutely necessary be able to pass the Senate.
3) I believe that a national military is one of the few things that absolutely has to be a Federal institution, and that it is the job of the Executive Branch to make sure that the military is always at maximum readiness. None of this letting it slack between wars bullshit.
4) I believe redundant Federal government programs and institutions should be consolidated. We do not need as many foreign aid programs as have, when one overall group could work just as well.
5) I believe the FBI should have far more autonomy and self-sufficiency at the local level, and the Federal level should be as trimmed down as possible.
6) I believe in decentralizing the Federal government and moving as much of it away from DC as possible. One city should never be the center of so much legal and legislative authority all at once. Seat of the legislature and executive branch, sure. But that's it.
7) I believe immigration should be and has been in the distant past an economic tool meant to supplement the labor supply when the economy needed it to meet labor demands. It should not be the political clusterfuck it is today.
8) I believe it is ok to disagree on policy. Corrolary: I also believe it is ok to kick someone in the nuts if they call you a fascist for disagreeing with them on policy.
9) I believe we are data in an inconceivably advanced super computer. I also believe God is autistic as fuck. We are free to view him as we like. Just so long as we agree it is idiotic and wrong to kill each other over it.
10) I believe in the Societal Nonaggression Pact, in which there is a basic understanding we should all leave each other the hell alone, and that institutions like the police and laws are meant to enforce and define that pact.
11) As a corollary, I believe sometimes there is no way for laws and police to prevent someone from violating the Pact in a grand display of violence. This is a secondary reason for the 2nd Amendment. The primary reason is because I want a tank.
12) I believe any federal policy that can only be implemented by saying "If I had total authority for a day" should probably not be considered in the first place. This does undo most of Obama's Presidency, yes.
13) I believe lawyers are responsible for writing far too many of our laws. No, engineers should NOT get dibs on law writing authority. I know how those nutcases think. It would NOT work.
14) I believe @kenbone18 should moderate all presidential debates. He is a national treasure.
15) I believe state governments should be given far more leeway over drug policy, environmental policy, etc. Organizations like the DEA and EPA should act as arbitrators/mediators only in disputes between states.
16) I believe we should make it a point to get to 53 states. Because then we truly would be one nation indivisible by anything but itself.
17) I believe that while we should not make protectionism our go-to trade policy, it is a necessary tool against nations who make protectionism their go-to trade policy. Note: The rest of the world typically has protectionism as a go to trade policy.
18) I believe war is a terrible endeavour that should be avoided whenever possible. Note: I believe a swift and decisive victory using every means at our disposable is far more preferable.
19) I believe it is necessary to understand that our government has to play dirty in the rest of the world to protect us here at home, and that dirty tricks should not be made into political points.
20) Corollary: I believe the government should NOT play dirty with us here at home, and should suffer legal repercusions when it does.
21) I believe the Federal and State governments' primary goal economically should be to reduce the barriers to entry as far as possible for as many industries as possible. I'll let Ron Swanson take it from here.
22) I believe duels should be brought back in a way; they should be back as debates. When one person directly offends the other, the aggrieved should be allowed to challenge the offender to a debate, in whatever form and rules both agree to or a neutral third party arranges.
23) I believe everyone has the right to speak as anonymously as they like, as freely as they like. Only one is guaranteed by the constitution, though.
24) I believe community colleges and trade schools should get far more attention than they do. I believe art and music programs at the university level get far more attention than they should.
25) I believe that our technology is on the cusp of extending our lifespan almost indefinitely, and we should do everything we can to ensure and encourage this.
26) Corollary: I believe we should also put as much into space exploration as possible, so I can get as far away from the rest of you assholes as possible once I cash in on immortality.
27) I believe that calling people on their bullshit is a time honored tradition that this country was founded on. Being an incorrigible asshole is not. That tradition is what France was founded on.
28) I believe that it is extremely unhealthy that private organizations which receive federal funding should in turn be able to donate money to the politicians that can vote to appropriate further funding to them. Looking at you Planned Parenthood.
29) I believe Roe vs Wade is settled case law, but it doesn't absolve me of my own responsibility to make sure that I don't get someone pregnant I didn't mean to.
30) I believe that there should be professional judicial experience requirements for Supreme Court Justice nominees. 3 years as a policy advisor, 6 as a Dean of a law school, and 1 as a solicitor general should not meet those requirements. Looking at you Kagan, ya hack.
I believe that this has gone long enough for now and its time to take a break. I might stretch this out to 95 later.
