Alright you "women in WW2 is unrealistic" pissbabies. Let's do this. Here's a handful of powerful, kickass WW2 women that did more with their wartime lives than you'll ever do.
1. Gertrude Boyarski - Partisan fighter
Gertie's family was killed by Germans and anti-semetic Poles. She joined a partisan detachment as revenge. She stood guard in the woods alone for 2 weeks to prove herself. She then burned down a bridge used by the Germans while under fire.
2. Nancy Wake - Allied Spy
Nancy was known as the 'White Mouse' by her German pursuers, she spent most of her time in France helping escaped POW's get to Spain, running messages between the British and French, oh, and STRANGLING NAZIS WITH HER BARE HANDS.
3. Nadezhda Popova: Bomber Pilot
Nadezdha was a USSR bomber pilot and a member of the feared 'Night Witches' squadron. She flew 852 missions in an old biplane, was shot down multiple times and destroyed plenty of German equipment as a result.
4. Violette Szabo - Allied Spy
Violette joined the British Special Operations Executive and paradropped into France to fuck shit up. She destroyed Nazi infrastructure until she was captured. She didn't go easy. She tried to escape many times but was ultimately executed
5. Lyudmila Pavlichenko - Soviet Sniper
Lyudmila recorded 390 kills fighting the Nazis. She is quoted saying of her contribution to the battle of Sevastopol "we moved down Hitlerites like ripe grain."
6. Lydia Litvyak - Fighter Ace
Lydia was known as the 'White Lily of Stalingrad'. She shot down over a dozen German aircraft before being killed in action at the age of 21
7. Hannie Schaft - Dutch Resistance
Hannie dropped out of uni and joined the Raad van Verzet. She spied on Germans, aided refugees and committed a great deal of sabotage. After surviving being shot in the head she yelled: "I can shoot better than that." She was later killed.
8. Susan Travers - French Foreign Legion
Susan was the only woman in the Foreign Legion. Stationed at Bir Hakeim in Libya, she and the other soldiers held out against the Germans for 15 days. She then drove a truck full of soldiers through German fire, making it to allied lines.
There are so many more stores that I could never do justice to here, as well as so many we will never know. WW2 was full of formidable fighting women, so pull your head out of your arses and be thankful most of us don't have to live through what they did.
Correction: Lyudmila Pavlichenko is recorded with 309 kills, not 390. Still INSANE.
