🚨JUST NOW: In an important win for #privacy rights this morning, the Fourth Amendment Is Not For Sale Act just passed out of the House Judiciary Committee by *unanimous* 30-0 vote. The bill will close a loophole law enforcement exploits to buy your sensitive data w/o a warrant. As @CenDemTech's "Data For Dollars" report explained - federal agencies (@FBI, @DEAHQ, @CBP, @ICEgov + military) & local police are going to #DataBrokers to buy Americans' sensitive data en masse, using taxpayer dollars to bypass required court approval:

NOT ENOUGH: The @NYCCouncil just passed the first U.S. law regarding fairness of AI-based hiring tools. @CenDemTech commends the Council for focusing on this key issue – but the bill falls far short.

Text of the bill here: legistar.council.nyc.gov/LegislationDet… #algorithms Image @NYCCouncil The bill has several fatal flaws. Most egregious? It requires companies to audit for discrimination only on the basis of race or gender - ignoring that #AI hiring tools can discriminate on #disability, age, & other features too.
