“There is nothing weak about kindness and compassion. There is nothing weak about looking out for others. There is nothing weak about being honorable. You are not a sucker to have integrity and to treat others with respect.” @BarackObama Eulogy, Elijah Cummings.
As I said, eulogies are about communal values. The person is honored for living up to the values of the community. The person has died, but the community and it’s values live on.
Obama is great at speaking the language of communal values, obviously. But notice that Obama has to defend those values here. That’s unusual. This moment is American history is unusual because the nation’s (overt, never realized) values are themselves under attack.

Tears again watching outtakes from #ElijahCummings' homegoing. What an extraordinary series of speeches, what a panoply of remarkable women and men. What a gift he was to all who knew him. And of course, to all of us.
I keep coming back to #ElijahCummings service today because the humility of the more famous speakers really struck me--they were in awe of having known him. And the joy with which his wife and daughters spoke about him. So much there.
But #ElijahCummings' wife Maya singling out the Clintons and Obama--the way she detailed what they each meant in her spouse's life--that was so deeply personal. That was about telling people how bridges are built. Even from the other side, he is telling us what needs to be done.

1) #ElijahCummings #Antisemite #Swamp
This man was one of those who has sought the endorsement of anti-Semite Louis Farahan, one of the Congressmen who refused to condemn anti-Semitism in his own party, and more.
As far as I am concerned, this wipes away all the good he might have done in his years in Congress and places him firmly in the side of the Swamp. 3)

We –
the nation,
the City of Baltimore,
the State of Maryland,
and the United States Congress - have all suffered a tremendous loss.
As a lifelong advocate for justice, equality, and the truth, Elijah Cummings was the true definition of a leader & his commitment to civility & humanity were invaluable in times such as these.

To many, he was a friend & mentor, but to the members of the CBC, Elijah was family.
Born & raised in Baltimore, to sharecroppers from South Carolina, Elijah knew firsthand the challenges of discrimination, segregation and poverty.

I am stunned and saddened by the sudden death of #ElijahCummings. What a powerhou5se, what a leader. He never stopped fighting for the most vulnerable, the most marginalized, the most needy.
In the 17yrs I wrote for the Baltimore Sun, #ElijahCummings was a headline-maker. I shall never forget him at #FreddieGray's funeral excoriating the press: "Did you see him?" Cummings thundered over and over, asking why no one noticed Gray in life, but flocked to his funeral.
#ElijahCummings led everywhere. He fought every day of his life for someone. We were fortunate beyond measure that he chose to fight for us as a nation, particularly these last few years, demanding we be empathetic. #RestInPower. We will not forget: #TheGentlemanWillNotYield

When in a discussion about political action and solutions, I constantly mention the need for multi-pronged approaches, how there is rarely only one way to a political solution. When I need evidence of this idea I often referred to Congressman Elijah Cummings.
While aimed at overlapping goals, Cummings did work I would never do. More, he was what I could never be, but in a way I could generally respect. I did not agree with all of his work, but I could not question the rectitude of the principles behind it.
He fought battles I would never fight, but that must be fought. He took lumps I would never have to take, and for the express purpose of ensuring someone like me wouldn’t have to take them.

Interesting prospect about #ElijahCummings Andrew Breitbart’s first pickup being @JamesOKeefeIII prostitution sting for his news website and the overbearing corruption in Baltimore that has asphyxiated any form of progress in the area. Both private and public. (1/18)
James O’Keefe performed a sting operation 10 years ago where he and an undercover journalist named Hannah Giles exposed the capability to easily operate an underage prostitution ring in Baltimore. Elijah Cummings has been a rep in this area since 1996. (2/18)
If it was this easy to get tax help for a brothel in Cummings district nearly a decade ago, imagine how much it has degraded since then. Also, O’Keefe was playing the role of a congressional hopeful, and the lady from ACORN thought nothing of it. (3/18)

#RodRosenstein served as a US Attorney for the District of #Maryland

His DAG appointment was pushed by US Rep from Maryland #ElijahCummings

The nonsense that " RR=Trump ", because Trump approved the appointment, has to stop

[2] #RodRosenstein highlights how "violent crime" decreased by 15% in Baltimore during his 10 year career as the US Attorney for the District of Maryland on May 2005 to 2015.

But nationwide - violent crime decreased 15% nationwide , so Baltimore was only average.
[3] #RodRosenstein and a #Strzok / #PeterStrzok connection ?

According to Wikipedia, AG @EricHolder appointed #Rosenstein to prosecute General James #Cartwright, a former Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, for leaking to reporters.
