Zum Pandemieversagen (> 11000 Tote, zehntausende Schwerkranke/LongCOVID-Betroffene, Waisenkinder) gibt es zwei wesentliche Ursachen in Österreich ...

1. Ein strukturelles Versagen.
2. Ein ideologisches Versagen.

(Thread, 1/n)

The countries of South-East Asia are 1000 x better in social distancing than other countries. Interestingly enough, the same is true for the countries of central Africa - they are masters of social distance and measures, too. Image
Nigeria is in the master class of social distancing, too -
5 deaths per Million.

It´s all about social distancing.

If you want to learn how to do it right, follow Bangladesh - 43 deaths per Millon.

Maybe this Asian country gets help from some demographic factors, they surely have a low population density and a lot of single households.

Dazwischen diverse Pressekonferenzen, Stellungnahmen und Beratungen. Meine Wut, Angst, Sorge und Verzweiflung ist noch gewachsen.

This may be controversial, but here's a thread on 5 problems I see with the #JohnSnowMemorandum.

I agree with the concept, but am worried about the message it sends.

I sympathize w/ those who have signed, submit this in the spirit of scientific debate.
First, I am no fan of surrender (aka "herd immunity") strategy articulated in #GreatBarringtonDeclaration. "Those...not vulnerable should immediately be allowed to resume life as normal" suggests vulnerable & non-vulnerable can be (a) identified & (b) kept apart. Both fallacies.
Second, full disclosure, I have a personal stake - an immediate family member has been in the hospital for months, with no visitation due to COVID restrictions. My pandemic life is not OK.

But with those caveats, here are my concerns.

With many other experts in infectious disease and allied fields, I'm proud to sign and have done my bit to help write this in @TheLancet which explains the *actual* expert consensus on the #COVID19 pandemic and the need for action marlin-prod.literatumonline.com/pb-assets/Lanc…
The letter states as clearly as can be that approaches to the pandemic that seek immunity through natural infection are dangerous, and explains why
This is a collaborative effort with many brilliant people, but @dgurdasani1 deserves special mention, for the tireless way she combined viewpoints and expertise from many different fields to build this statement of *consensus*.
