#COMSEC "Liz Truss’s *personal phone* was hacked by agents suspected of working for Russian President Vladimir Putin. They gained access to top-secret details of negotiations with key international allies"
Should have been on her *official phone" rather than her *personal* one !
After the multiple Tory Prime Minister and Cabinet Minster mobile phone security scandals, can @ncsc @gchq @CabinetOffice now assure the public that no Cabinet Ministers are using their private mobile phones for official government work ?

"#Puffery" is a funny word! It's the word that lawyers use when their clients are accused of unlawful speech acts, such as fraud or libel. In that context, "puffery" (or, even better, "mere puffery") is a synonym for #bullshit. 1/ An aerial photo of the Paci...

Recycling is puffery. Which is to say, recyling is bullshit.

Plastic recycling started with a "puffery" campaign. In 1973, Exxon researchers told the company that there was no feasible way to recycle plastics, and that there likely never would be.

Obama's Stanford University speech this Thursday (correctly) raised the alarm about conspiratorial thinking, and (correctly) identified that Big Tech was at the center of that rise - and then (wildly incorrectly) blamed "the algorithm" for it.

Obama committed the sin of #critihype, @STS_News's useful term for criticism that repeat the self-serving myths of the subject of the critique. Every time we say that Big Tech uses machine learning to brainwash people, we give Big Tech a giant boost:

Big corporate reporting day today. It'll need a tweetstorm to do it justice. 👇

Auto parts maker @ARB4x4 doubled their profits to $54m in the second half of 2020, after getting $10m in JobKeeper. ARB's dividend is up 56%. Time to back it up & repay the JobKeeper. #auspol (1/7)
Retailer Adairs saw its half-year profits more than double to $44m, having received $10m in JobKeeper. Half a cheer for paying back $6m - now it's time to return the rest. #shortsheeted #auspol (2/7)
Online advertiser @Domaincomau enjoyed increased profits to $19m for the half year. Yet they got $6m from taxpayers in JobKeeper. #caveatemptor #auspol (3/7)

People who claim that #RankedChoiceVoting is too confusing to implement don't seem to care that in many complicated transactions of everyday life, individuals are pitted against corporations & the governments they own.

The elderly have to navigate "Medicare Advantage" plans.
Renters have to navigate contracts with landlords.

Pension fund managers of unions & municipalities are hearing pitches from hedge fund managers.

You are shopping in the grocery store & the only info, for the most part, you have on the products is companies advertising.
You buy a house & it turns out that environmental changes elsewhere are going 2 eventually cause your property to be in a flood plain.

You are supposed to figure out which health insurance plan best meets the medicines you need.

In all of these things & more, it's #caveatemptor

#SciTwitter Does anyone know how often #receptors or #ligands are the limiting factor for in vivo signaling pathways? Versus equilibrium where modulating either side even a little affects activity.
@keiser_lab @kevansf @srikosuri
For posterity: As far as I can tell so far, when receptors are expressed constitutively at decent levels, ligands are usually limiting. Receptors that are conditionally expressed are usually limiting. Haven't figured out how hard 'limiting' applies in either case.
This is from conversations rather than primary research, so #CaveatEmptor.
