I bought a 1939 World’s Fair guide and it is truly a book of wonders
Shoutout to the 1939 USSR pavilion touting socialism by not having an admission fee
I love that in 1939-era New York, people were just nostalgic for even older New York. Because of course they were.
Also a lot of racism in this book, because, of course. Not gonna take any photos, but WOOF, the past.
Nothing sounds safer and less horrible than “biological surprise experiment”
Love how short this mention of computers is, like that shit isn’t going to dominate literally every single aspect of the human existence within 60 years.
Anyway, back to work! Have a good day, everyone. We live in a cyberpunk nightmare that too will one day seem quaint to people ironically buying our things when we’re dead

Depression isn’t a form of sadness. It’s not something that goes away if you just think about how good you have it or how successful you are. You can’t positivity it away. It lies to you about yourself and eats you from the inside and tells you that you alone make things worse.
Depression isn’t a thing that’s cured over an afternoon or often ever. If you’re looking to support someone with depression, listen. Sometimes it won’t make sense. Sometimes it’ll seem silly or selfish. But listen. It’s hard to reach out with depression, but being there helps.
And if you have depression, it’s a liar. It’s a YouTube comment in your head made of feelings that hurt you and slow you. You’re not bothering other people when you reach out, even when it feels like you are. You’re not selfish, even if your brain says that you are. It lies.

1/ In the musical, Burr laments "I survived, but I paid for it // Now I’m the villain in your history." Did killing Hamilton make Burr a villain? Recall that Burr was popular enough in 1800 that he was just one vote away from becoming President when the election deadlocked...
2/ But Burr's star was falling fast even *before* killing Hamilton. He's the VP at the time, but he's disliked by POTUS. And in Mar. 1804, he loses the election for NY governor to a relative unknown. Even if Burr wasn't already a villain before shooting Hamilton, he was no hero.

Last night I promised a thread about #abortion before Roe v Wade legalized it nationally. Until the mid-1800s, common law allowed abortion until "quickening", when fetal movement can be felt. Toxic abortion remedies & doctors competing w midwives led to… 1/
laws outlawing abortion except where pregnancy was likely to be fatal spreading across the country. Bottled abortion remedies could be and were fatal, and doctors, almost all white and male, didn't want midwives competing with them for pregnancy care. 2/
