Tuticorin riots is not the first church instigated riot in Tamil Nadu. Let me give you a glimpse of what had happened in Kanniyakumari district in the year 1982 when MGR was the chief minister.
In the year 1982 , the devotees of Mandaikaadu Bhagavathi Amman temple in kanniyakumari district were having temple festival, the female devotees of went to immerse the deities in the sea. These female devotees were not only stopped by Christians but we're also molested by them.
Christians said " the sea belongs to the Christians, we are in siesable numbers, this land belongs to Jesus, we will not allow Hindus to immerse deities in the sea, we will not allow them to take processions In our areas" , riots followed , spread to entire district
MGR as CM had to use force to quell the riots, some lives were lost, damages to public property was huge. After the riots MGR appointed a one man enquiry commission under retired Justice Venugopal. This report was called Venugopal commission report. It was tabled in the assembly

After examining 161 witnesses & 323 pieces of evidences, Justice Venugopal commission blamed the Christians as the sole reason for the riots.

Justice Venugopal commission suggested MGR to bring an anti- conversion law to stop reoccur reoccurance of such incidents in the future. Dr.MGR accepted this report & tabled it on the floor of the Tamil Nadu assembly.
