I am a Seattle YIMBY. Here’s what I want:
+More public housing on public land.
+More market rate housing (necessary but not sufficient!)
+More missing middle housing in single-family zones—duplexes, triplexes, three-flats, corner stores with apts above, built by neighbors...
1/
+”Single-family” changed to “Residential” zoning
+Support for Baugruppen, co-housing, multigenerational housing—co-living of all kinds—in all Residential zones.
+A civic bank to provide low interest loans to people self-developing small scale fine grain multifamily housing.
2/
+A City program that truly incentivizes Passivhaus and other ultra-low-energy ways of building.
+Sidewalks, bike lanes and dedicated transit lanes fricking everywhere in the city people walk, cycle and use public transit.
+More trees, less parking.
3/
+Backyard cottages and granny flats (two of any combination plus the big house) everywhere.
+Taller upzones (more housing) around Link stations
+A Design Review and SEPA process that can’t be weaponized by people opposed to new housing.
Ultimately, I want to help make a city that welcomes new neighbors as graciously and warmly as possible. There are probably things I forgot to mention that I and my friends who think of themselves as Seattle YIMBYs also want. Add yours...?
