Lol, the guy who did campaign opposition research for George HW Bush has some very sincere advice for Democrats that he and The Hill would like to share.
Democrats have spent the last two decades courting these alleged “swing voters” and centrists, and they’ve won at every level w/it, except for local state and national.

Anyone suggesting they should continue this strategy should be thrown into a barrel full of old ground chuck.
The leftist platform has actual solutions for actual problems that face actual people.

40% of the electorate doesn’t vote.

That sounds to me like people who aren’t hearing real solutions to their real problems.
Swing voters, meanwhile, are people who *still* can’t decide if Donald Trump is bad or not.

Never mind if you can even convince them to vote for you, which seems unlikely.

Why would you want to become the thing you would have to become in order to do so?
And Trump voters are people who have been so captured by allies that Sean Hannity can put this list of obviously good things up on screen as as self-evidently bad.

They’re people who have learned to vote for poison and fear the cure.

Why pursue them? Why seek their approval?
Again, 40% don’t vote. This list is the sort of platform that looks different and attractive. People tend to go for things that are different and attractive. Right?

But sure, let’s publish a Bush campaign guy tell Democrats what they should do.
The Hill publishing something like this should be as laughable as it would be if ESPN published a Steve Kerr piece before the Finals on what the Cavs needed to do to beat the Warriors.

Huh, Kerr thinks the Cavs should rest LeBron the whole first half. Seems like good advice.
The winning message to beat the “let’s drink poison” party is not “let’s drink watered down poison.”

Again, 40% did not vote. Go get them.

Again, swing voters can’t decide if Trump is bad. To hell with “swing voters.” They’re a trap.
Run a positive message. Run the sum of all Sean Hannity’s fears.

It’s inspirational. Real solutions to real problems. What a concept.
I never said leave them behind. Let’s give them free healthcare and their children free education. Let’s free them from a militarized police state. Let’s give them solutions to their problems.

Let’s just not try to court their *votes.* They want poison. We shouldn’t offer it.
And let’s notice that the advice to Democrats to continue to frequently be the party of watered-down poison is mostly coming from members of the party of pure poison, or from people who have profited very nicely from the poison.

And maybe we should wonder why that would be.
For certain elected Democrats, I think this is very observably true.
