Just finished the Mr. Rogers documentary “Won’t You Be My Neighbor,” which helped me articulate why that show appealed to me so much as a kid.

So many shows sold us distraction for boredom, and he gave us kindness, empathy, sincerity, and radically for television, moral clarity.
How I missed the boat to stop paying attention to him in early adulthood.

Contemplating the enormity of the 9/11 attacks, for example, ordained minister Fred Rogers returns to the airwaves and urges viewers... tikkun olam, the Hebrew injunction to repair the world.

Wow.
Here was a man who observed the Kennedy assassination and the Challenger disaster, whose first thought was: How do I explain this to and comfort the children?
