Over lunch, asked my husband why journalists who share consensus views get so upset when someone doesn't share their consensus views and I wish I had taken a picture of the "how did I marry someone this naive" look he gave me.
Then he patiently gave me an explanation of social pressure, how people feel safety in both numbers and long-held assumptions, and included a bit of "Emperor's New Clothes."
Anywho, that journos apply junior-high-style peer pressure to get people to conform to their (frequently false, almost always inadequate!) consensus view remains ... fascinating to observe. And a bit sad, of course.
