Politico floats an explanation for why The Guardian published that ridiculous Manafort/Assange/Russia story that all the media fell for immediately. SEE, THE RUSSIANS MADE THEM DO IT. (Really) politi.co/2FNkVEO

Maybe before we float that story was planted by Putin, we look into whether it was latest of many stories planted by a well-funded opposition research group that feeds Russia conspiracy theories to a complaint media or is that too Occam's Razory I guess.

Trey Gowdy asked Comey about his memo regarding a meeting with Reince Preibus on 2/8/17. His answer was fascinating. First, let's recall memo says Priebus wondered what was up with the bizarre briefing of the pee tape and dossier and how everything was leaking to the press.
I'll personally note the clumsy briefing of false/silly dossier items had to feel like blackmail to the incoming administration even before it was immediately leaked to compliant media. Anywho, Priebus asks if FBI is leaking and seems to have real concern about it.
So that's the context for the next line. Which is: "He then asked me if this was a 'private conversation.' I replied that it was." Trey Gowdy asked him about this and Comey's answer is so slippery and on-its-face ridiculous that it's really something.

great example of Democrat privilege built into media coverage (when they win, it's just that they win. When Republicans win, it's literally Russia!), the role that Democrats' paid info operations play in driving news coverage, the overhyping of Russia's 2016 operations, etc.

EXTREMELY UNPOPULAR TAKE: I get that HRC has no right to complain since she spent all 2016 attacking Trump on sex issues as if she weren't literally married to Bill Clinton, but I still kind of feel like she was right not to throw Bill under the bus on abuse of power question.
Obviously Bill is bad news who doesn't take his marriage faithfully, but I can never begrudge anyone for sticking up for a family member, even in difficult circumstances. Also why she shouldn't have been so unself-aware in 2016, granted.
