If I were a mystery writer, I’d probably have my unusually observant, serendipitously-everpresent-at-the-scene-of-murders character be a little old widowed church lady in a small Southern town with a massive hat collection. Retired school principal.
Just solving locked room murders in some massive fuchsia Sunday church hat with a net veil and quarter-sized fake pearl buttons.
Fake-pearl-bedecked glasses chain a MUST. This lady would be all about the fake pearls. pear earrings, pearl in her engagement band.

Weirdly indifferent to deceased husband, tho. Turns out she only began solving mysteries as a widow cuz he was holding her back.
"Stay out of that mess, Judith, quit asking for trouble!" He'd say. "You've got kids to think of!" And she's shrug in annoyance and let another case go cold.

First few eps can be her going back and solving all the stuff Lawrence nagged her out of solving. YEARS LATER.
"Yes, good to see you too, Kenneth! The kids are out of the house now, so I solve crime. Speaking of which--" *rummages in quilted, fuchsia purse* "-- Your cousin Bunky didn't die in a car crash in '87. It was a set-up by Timothy. You know, Cora's boy? I wrote it all down here."
"What? Oh no, sweetie, the big hat is at home. I save it for Easter.

Now, show me where you found the body."
